Automakers will be required to install backup cameras in most new vehicles by May 2018, a federal agency announced Monday. [cnn.com]

That's why backup sensors would make far more sense if they are going to make anything mandatory.
I can't remember ever having to shift while backing up.
But you also have a clutch which must be balanced with the gas pedal. Shifting your pelvis slightly to be able to look backwards makes it more difficult to use both feet to manage the pedals.
