The video of the kid getting punched is sooo hard to watch. Frown

If this were my child, I would sue the school, the parents of the kid that hit him, AND the kids that cheered. Mad

You can. I have two boys that are amazing. They are kind, compassionate, honest, loving, and know the value of family, respect and hard work. We limited TV, have always been active in their classrooms and always eat dinner together as a family. The oldest is off at school but calls every night to tell us about his day.

It can be done. Smilie

No, no it doesn't. One has nothing to do with the other. The "everybody gets a trophy" mentality is everywhere... red states, blue states, and purple states. This may come as a surprise to you, but not everything has to do with being a liberal or a conservative. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

no generation was like this upcoming generation. this is the first self-entitlement generation and things are TERRIBLE with our youth right now.
This is the first generation raised to think that feeling good about yourself is more important than knowing the right answer. That is definitely a new phenomenon. I have friends who teach in elementary school who have told me that they are now trained to NEVER tell a child that they are wrong. They are literally not allowed to use the word wrong. In today's schools, if you ask the class "what is 5x5?" and someone raises their hand and says "87!" you are not allowed to say that they are wrong. You have to say something like "that's an interesting answer, but maybe you would like to try again?" or "that was a good effort". I don't think that kind of coddling has been used in any previous generation.

Exactly. The boomer generation is ruining the current generation and then complaining that the current generation is a mess as if it's their fault that they were coddled... it's mind boggling.

I can't wait for the first time some overprotective helicopter parent calls me to complain about their kid's grade in my course. Thank God for FERPA [wikipedia.org].

TV and movies was always violent. Maybe more so years back. Saturday morning cartoons were filled with violent content when I was a kid. We laughed and then went outside and playing baseball or something. It's a bullshit excuse for TV, movies, music, etc... to take the blame.

Exactly how many ways did Wile E Coyote try to kill the Roadrunner? And you can found tons of examples. the truth is the problem is parents not being parents.

While I agree that parents are no longer parenting, cartoons are just that ... cartoons. Children see movies, television, and celebrities in a way that they do not see cartoons.

And probably way more...I know when I was a kid we had maybe 3 channels total on a good day, and cartoons were only on like 3-4 hours on Saturday morning...

the A-Team never killed nobody...Barney Fife only shot his own toe...the Walton's ate together and all went to bed around the same reasonable hour...

I have to teach these lazy self entitled kids every freaking day. They don't turn in their assignments on time, they don't come to class, they don't study... and yet it's always my fault for being too strict. "What do you mean I can't turn this assignment in 3 days late?" "What do you mean you don't drop the lowest test score?" "What do you mean there's no extra credit to help boost my grade?"

Everything is always someone else's fault and they always expect someone else to come in and clean up their messes and save them from the consequences of their own laziness and apathy. The self esteem generation of kids is going to be the downfall of this country because they don't have even the most rudimentary tools to survive in the real world and yet someday they are going to be running things. God help us when that day comes.

and then they come to DH's world for jobs..... last night's conversation:
DH- employee came to me to borrow a calculator, I asked why. employee stated he was preparing a package for shipment and was trying to multiply 8 by 7.

and in my workplace, many of the younger entry level employees do not know how to speak to customers, are disrespectful to the elderly, and talk like they are in the street. So we have to train them (notice I did not use the word educate) so they can interact appropriately and respectfully.

And the crime? It's off the charts. And the worse it is, the more humor they seem to find in it. We saw a fight in the parking lot of Walgreens a couple of years ago and the guys standing around were hooping, hollering and filming it. One older black lady starting yelling at them to stop that nonsense and they told her to mind her own business. Kids today talk to their elders like they are stray dogs. When I was a kid, the elder would have beaten my ass and then my parents would have beat my ass.

This ^^^^

Now you have to have your kid stand on the corner with a sign looking like a moron. Go back to smacking them on the ass and see how fast they turn around. ( and no, I don't mean beating your kids, big difference. I know some people are very touchy about this subject. )

Requiring employees to speak the "Kings English" so customers can understand them is racist and discriminatory!

Not king's English, just respectfully address the elderly and follow the golden rule.

Example, do not address an elderly person as "dude"

all those violences have existed long before now. Scarface came out in '81, Godfather series started in '72, Mortal Kombat was released in '92, Duke Nukem in '91. look at the violence in Looney Tunes?

the TV, movie, and video game argument is a cop-out.

There are a whole host of other factors that play into it. My personal opinion is that genetics is finally catching up with us. We pass our crazy genes onto our children. Have children with other people who have crazy genes? Your kids are twice as likely to be farked up. For example, if you have any relation to this guy [wikipedia.org]you shouldn't have kids, IMO. I honestly don't think it all gets worked out over decades or centuries.
