No...but its justification to paying them less for the same job men do. Gonna be a bitch a week a month? No problem....but we're paying you less.

I had a co-worker who had debilitating menstrual cramps, way beyond what most women go through. Trust me I know what really horrible cramps are but hers were far worse, she actually passed out from the pain a few times. They finally did an exploratory surgery on her and discovered she had a severe case of endometriosis, and wound up doing several operations to try to lessen her pain. This was in the days before FMLA and she wound up using up sick time and going on unpaid leave for part of the treatment.

I get intestinal cramps a lot of the time and is very painful. I have very bad constipation and it feels about as bad as getting kicked in the balls.

A guy friend of mine passed out one time from a kidney stone. He'd had them for years but this one was so large and painful he fainted. His GF found him unconscious in the hall when she got home.

I'm curious, I didn't watch the video, are they talking about days above and beyond regular paid sick time or PTO? If not, I don't really care what the reason is, if you feel bad enough to call in, call in, but if you abuse it, expect consequences...if they mean additional time off, then so continues the catification of Merica!

I have a hernia and have one testicle ascend during sex from time to time. Should I get a day off after passing out from the pain?

read the article, didn't watch the video.

just like with a lot of HR issues, this one falls into "yeah, a subset of the population probably deserves this, but implementation wouldn't be worth it because the probability of abuse is too high." in a perfect world, should everyone be able to add dependents on their insurance without checks, just take vacation when they need to, and wear whatever they want to work? obviously. but most businesses can't do that because people will abuse the freedom, just like many women would abuse this.

ddubb also brings up an interesting point: regardless of the reason, should someone who could potentially require several days off every month expect to be paid the same as someone who works every day? i personally don't think so. it's one thing when someone has acute IBS, chronic kidney stones, or someone else that comes at unknown intervals, but when it's almost guaranteed to happen every month, i think that deserves consideration when determining compensation.

of course, i'm a healthy male, so that colors my views.
