Yes!!! But you may want to get something other than a 1911 for your first pistol. At this price tho, may as well lol. Great price for a non name brand 1911

You can check the Ca roster here [ca.gov].

Although a large caliber (.45ACP) the gun is quite heavy with a good balance so the recoil isn't nearly as bad as one would expect.
Some precautions to take:
1. Make sure your thumb is way down and nowhere near the slide or you may poke yourself in the eye. Smilie
2. Make sure the fleshy part between your thumb and forefinger is below the beaver tail at the top back of the handgrip or the slide coming back may 'bite' you...Wink

Otherwise the 1911 is a great and fun gun to shoot. I'm seriously considering this one to replace my Taurus 24/7Pro (also .45ACP) as a truck gun even though the 24/7 has a larger mag capacity. Simply because of the reliability and handling of the 1911.(not saying the 24/7 is not reliable as it is. I just love the 1911) I have to wait until tomorrow to confirm my budget allows for it.

Truthfully I don't think the pliticritters in California consider any firearm 'friendly', but the above link shows you what is 'approved' for purchase.

Probably not. I know there is a website that lists what is CA Friendly. Try googling it and searching for this pistol. CA is a very unfriendly state if you are hard working and honest. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Edit: See above post.

I was looking at the SR1911 recently and liked what I had seen and read. I know the SR1911 is 2x as much as this ATI 1911 , but is it 2x as good or would I be better off getting this one and saving some money?

I have this same gun in the 4.25" length (because I already have a 5" 1911 I love).

It shoots surprisingly well and has had shockingly few malfs (the only malfunction I had was when I was trying to shoot with only my left hand and limp-wristed it). I've run it hot with rapid fire and have had zero problems.

My $300 ATI isn't as nice as my $1,200 Kimber but I tell you what, the Kimber isn't $900 better. This is a good buy, and if I didn't already have one I'd be all over this deal.

I don't know that I would say it's twice the gun, but for sure the SR1911 is better. The most obvious difference is the finish - the SR1911 is stainless, this is blued. nothing wrong with blued (and plenty of very nice, expensive 1911s are blued), but you don't see a lot of stainless 1911s in this price range. Next up would be the sights. the standard GI sights suck. The adjustable 3-dot Novak sights on the SR1911, are much better, and would probably be a $100+ upgrade if you took the ATI to a gunsmith. And while the Philippines has a strong history in firearms manufacturing, should you ever need service, you will likely have an easier time with the American-made Ruger. Also the SR1911 comes with two magazines, the ATI comes with one (but 1911 magazines are fairly inexpensive and easy to come by).

If you are looking for a 1911 to keep forever, get the Ruger. If you just want a pistol to plink with and cost is a very real factor, get the ATI, and spend the difference on ammo and magazines.

JUST FYI - Found this about the company ATI who makes this gun and how many people are NOT happy with some of their guns or their customer service...http://youtu.be/cuRV1BbtVbM

Not all bad reviews, sounds hit or miss, but even 50/50 odds when buying any gun thats a few hundred bucks isnt worth the gamble....especially when I start 2nd guessing myself when Im about to pay for it..

Otherwise I would have loved to pick up this deal, but now I'll just wait it out... sadly... but every company does have its lemons.. just for me, I've seen enough unhappy customers that I'll wait this one out.

That Youtube review seems for an officer style model, not this full size 1911 model. The guide rod looks very different from the standard spring setup this one is supposed to come with.

Not $299 and no Novak sights but $399 after MIR and with green fiber optic front sights.

CDNNSports [cdnnsports.com] has the PARA ORDNANCE 1911 45ACP 5" EXPERT FO FRT 2-8RD for $499 with a Para $1000 MIR plus S/H

PARA ORDNANCE 1911 45ACP 5"BL EXPERT
• 45 ACP
• 5" Match-Grade Barrel
• Green Fiber Optic Front Sight
• Stainless Steel Slide & Steel Frame
• Oversized, Flared Ejection Port
• Beavertail Grip Safety
• Skeletonized Match-Grade Trigger
• Black Nitride Finish
• Polymer Grips
• 2-8 Round Magazines

Thank you for the response! I will probably hold out and get get an SR1911 for peace of mind as I plan on having it for a long time.

I've owned one for a couple of years now, and it's been a great pistol. the lowest price I've seen for the standard SR1911 online is $599.99, at the KY Gun Co. I paid more than that for mine, but it's been worth it.

The RIA tac series is also a good budget 1911 for about $100 more. There is currently a $50 rebate as well.
