Raddish's Dining Room Remodeling Project *UPDATE* #138, with a pic! Fresh paint and completed chair rail. Still have to do beauty boxes.

This project has been on the Honey-do list since the day we moved into this house back in August of 2005. Our dining room is pretty hideous. The previous owners used it as an office and cut holes in the walls, etc.

The color on the walls is nice, but that's the only good thing to say about it, really.

So far we haven't done much except replace the stupid little light that was in the room with a chandelier we got on Amazon.com for $26. It's stainless and matches the rest of the lights in the house, so we like it. We were considering buying a nearly identical chandelier from Lowe's for like $350, and honestly we like that one a bit better, for for $26 for the one we got we really couldn't be much happier. Smilie

So since I got laid off from my job I figured I'd take almost two weeks off before starting the new job and tackle this project. First up is priming the walls and removing the awful head-cap from over the window.

Next is pulling up the carpet and staples and removing the baseboards.

Then I'll either install the hardwood or fix all the holes in the walls, not sure which direction I'll go next, but both will hopefully be done by the end of next week.

Later, I'll be wainscoting the dining room, but I have to pick a pattern first. I'm not sure what I want to do just yet.

I also intend to install an in-wall display case for my wife's butterfly art. This will also include some new lighting to show off her collection. That'll probably happen before the wainscoting, and indeed may even drive the wainscoting design.

I've uploaded a few pictures of what I am starting with. I'll post more as I go along, just like before. Smilie

The procrastinator in me greatly appreciates the extreme sacrifices of the OP in working on this project. nod

Nail holes are filled and drying. Once sanded, I'll caulk the trim. In the morning I'll paint from the chair rail down a semi-gloss white and fill the face-nail holes in the hardwood.

Then we put up the Christmas tree. Smilie

Exactly, with that color you cannot guarantee what it will look like; and it's an awful color for a dining room; it doesn't go as a color for "dining". Raddish should pick a more neutral color if he is going to sell this home; something in a beige/tan or even a dual color if it has chair railing.

Meh, my realtor picked the color pallet. Rest of house is a neutral tan, kitchen is a mint green since the cabinets are blonde and would be lost in the tan, and the dining room is a soothing peach that doesn't look at all look pink. I wanted more of a burnt orange, but I'm not going to live here so I don't really care.

Yes, but what you see on a sample color card, doesn't necessarily mean that will look good on the walls in the dining room - it's just not a friendly "dining room eating experience" color, imho. Then again, you live in the south; and I have found visiting my son, and house hunting for future purposes; that colors down there are a lot different than up where I live. Totally different color palates indeed nod Bright frog green would not be my choice, but it's found a lot where he lives Bigeye

All the nail holes in the trim are filled and sanded, and all the trim and window has been caulked. It's a cold, wet day so the caulk is taking forever to set, but once it does the painting begins. I am hoping to complete the painting before we go do bed tonight.

Crye-Leike. Our agent is a personal friend of mine whom I've known since 1999. I am not much for RE agents in general, but she's good at what she does and I just don't have the time right now for the marketing this house needs.

It's not on the MLS yet, we are still getting the house ready. A few more rooms to paint, a shower door to replace, and some work in the back yard to do yet.

To live in Madison City? No thanks, you can keep your traffic (seems like Madison Blvd, Old Madison Pike, Hwy 72 and depending on the time of day, County Line Rd all substitute as parking lots on a regular basis).

I live north of town, but am lucky that I get to stay off of 231/431 and 53 commuting.

I don't live in Madison City, I'm in Harvest. About 20 minutes from Redstone Arsenal in the morning. The commute is actually not bad now that the overpass is done at 53 and Research Park, and now that 53 is four lanes all the way to Jeff Rd.

Actually, where I live I have about eight different routes out, so if one gets backed up for whatever reason, I'm not stuck.

What part of north are you? Tony? Meridianville? Somewhere in between?

I wish my husband could find a job in Huntsville. I love it up there. We have friends in the Madison area and my nephew went through Redstone a couple of years ago.

Are you staying in the area or moving out of state?
