If you can find 3D items you like (whether by web pages, or Thingiverse.com, or others) they're fantastic machines. The entire concept of x/y/z stepper motors and fractional-millimeter resolution makes items incredibly well. The HUGE hurdle VF has yet to overcome is learning one of the 'from-scratch' 3D modeling programs, like Blender (incredibly powerful, incredibly complex, FreeCad (much simpler), or others. Most of them were built organically, following what others had been doing. If someone ever comes along and writes an intuitive user interface, I'd be ecstatic. It definitely takes time, and LOTS of it.

Yep, I think overwhelmingly I'd probably be printing things that already exist. I've played with 3D modelers in the past, enough to know I'm not going to invest my effort unless it's really something I need to figure out laugh out loud

Look what followed me home Whee
Not the most highly-regarded incarnation, but it's hard to argue with $218 out the door after tax. As we were loading it into the back of my station wagon, a rando walking down the street said "Hey, if I don't hear those later, I'll be disappointed in you!"
I paused and said "me too!"

It's almost absurd how much volume this tiny little amp can push out of that cabinet Bigeye
Hybrid with a tube pre-amp and solid state power amp section, rated 20W at 8 ohms, the cabinet is 16 ohms (and rated for 240W). I barely got any time to play with it last night due to Willow's impending bedtime.

That is certainly understandable. The widdles needs their sleeps. nod Now, the idea of a tube first stage with a solid-state final stage is also one of the best things that ever happened to music amps. Great sound without all the final drive tube issues.

Miz VViles would certainly appreciate the name on that amp. laugh out loud

The 3D printer that arrived last week and hasn't worked correctly once yet, is now going back to Amazon. VF is tired of fighting with it, when the much smaller unit from the same manufacturer he bought last year was an absolute pleasure to work with. Less complex, less accurate, smaller capacity, yet it worked PERFECTLY. List of things that were w0rng with this supposedly 'better' unit:
  • arrived with Chinese language firmware on the display
  • would not load firmware without many conditions. (seriously restrictive)
  • would not print on the right-hand side of the print bed (the bed was BADLY warped)
  • print surface would not allow PLA residue to be cleanly removed (whut?!?)
  • bed leveling adjustment springs were not firmly attached, wouldn't adjust the bed
  • customer support was off from Thursday night this week until Monday morning next week

BZZZT, sorry Charlie, you lose...

I want to get a doggie doolie for the yard but I'm not sure how to dig a hole 1 foot wide by 2 feet deep. Just use a normal shovel ? I don't have any kind of fancy pole diggers.

Yup. Use a tape measure to mark off the area to dig. A one-foot hole is just larger than a shovel wide, so it should not be too much effort, depending on your soil content. Getting it two feet deep will be the most difficult part. So long as you're not on rock or solid red clay, you should be good. Getting drainage / percolation through the soil is the key.

Fair warning . . . I don't know how your Home Depot is, but when I rented an auger two years ago, it was in terrible shape. Wobbly, loose, plastic breaking, dull blade. If it says it's a one-person auger, you'll probably be fine. That's what I wound up using to finish my iron fence post holes last year. It was a loan from a friend, and because it was fairly new/solid, it worked like a champ.

Also, most auger bits/blades are only 3-feet long, so you might get 3.5 feet down with it, at the most.

VF was set to trim the azaleas this morning, but Mother Nature wanted to rain. Still got out there, trimmed down the three hugely overgrown azaleas on the east/upper end of the lawn. Got the biggest pieces chopped up with loppers, then ran the mower over it all to pick up. It was drizzling the entire time, but at least half of it's now down and it looks immensely better.

Warning - Amazon rant incoming... (I'll keep it short.)

So, after the debacle of the recent 3D printer order (poor quality in so many ways) the new replacement from a different vendor arrived today. (See below)

Facepalm
I just got a box from them that was packed inside another box, exterior box looked fine. Interior box looked a lot like that. Fortunately the item itself was fine (this time...)

Awaiting the arrival of yet another 3D printer today. No expectations whatsoever, and won't be the least bit surprised if it's anything like the previous box, or worse. Actually, it's in decent shape, and does not appear to have been previously opened. Still a bit beat up from the AMZ BWI4 warehouse, but nothing like the previous box.

After being so happy with my new Squier, I ordered one of the original run of this model that was made in Japan in the late 90s. I was hoping/assuming it would be a better overall guitar, but they're fairly rare so the only way to find out was to order one. Spent a bit of time playing it last night, and... I'm pretty sure I don't like it as much. I suppose that's good for my wallet, since it came from Guitar Center and there's a 45 day return period, so I'll just need to make a trip to Tacoma and drop it off if I decide it really isn't for me. The neck doesn't feel as good to me, and I don't like the output from the pickups as much. It did confirm that I would like to upgrade the tuners on my other one, these feel smoother and have less slop in them.

So, some useful experience gleaned from the purchase. Everything I read about guitar neck materials and shapes and what people prefer is so varied, and so very subjective, it seems a wonder some people ever find anything they actually like. EEK!

VF assembled the new 3D printer and took it upstairs to his teeny-weeny office, but did NOT connect it, power it up, or attempt to do anything with it. Just didn't want to get started up that late in the evening. So, tonight it will get connected to the network and turned on and hopefully take not more than an hour or so to setup. It actually has an RPi of sorts built inside, a RockChip Pi that does the network and all the processing. Will be somewhat interesting to see what it does on boot-up. Probably need to get the MAC address off it and assign it a fixed IP, anyway. That way I can completely block it from reaching out to the greater interwebz.

As for the material and assembly, it was very, very good. I hope that's a good indicator of what to expect from the software/firmware.
