No, I prefer to mash and mix them by hand. Using a mixer/beater results in too uniform/smooth a filling, and I prefer to retain some of the fibrous texture of the sweet potatoes. A long, long time ago, before I had a mixer at all, I used a whisk to make my cheesecakes. Then I got a electric hand mixer. It was SOOOO much easier. But the cake didn't taste or feel the same. I learned then, if you're gonna use an electric mixer, use it minimally and don't over-process your batter.
