So What Does Everyone Think About Deflate-Gate?

25,141 707 January 22, 2015 at 12:50 PM in Sporting Goods
The title says it. What does everyone think about this bizarre "Deflate-Gate" deal that is far more interesting that this year's Super Bowl? Belichick reaffirmed that he knew nothing at all about the football preparation and denied having anything to do with it.

Tom Brady is supposed to be talking publicly very soon and may be admitting to arranging to have the footballs prepped to the way he likes them.

So, is this a big deal? Is this something that happens with pretty much every team and it has just become public?

IF THEY ARE GUILTY OF CHEATING...

People keep saying "it doesn't matter if the balls were deflated because it wouldn't have effected the game outcome with it being 45-7".

That sounds like a stupid argument to me, what does it matter that the score was 45-7? If you are guilty of cheating, you should face the consequences and there should be consequences. If this was done on purpose, Bellichick should be suspended for a year (regardless if he knew or not), and several round draft picks should be removed, and fined up the wazoo.

As a coach, you should be expected to set the tone for your team and if your team is found guilty of cheating, you should be held accountable.

the honest patriots, so is this strike 3 for caught cheating? wonder what they're doing now or done before that they have not been caught.
Belicheat and his sidekick Brady's bunch should be banished altoghther from the NFL. they give the league a bad name.

Why didn't the "easier to grip" deflated football help the colts?

Because they weren't using the deflated footballs.
Not a tough concept to figure out.

Although to be honest, before this controversy came out I had no idea that each team used different footballs when on offense. I figured there was just one batch of footballs that was rotated as needed.

nod

36 balls sent to each team each week.

15 given to each team, 6 being kept by the refs to be used if necessary (which happened 2nd half of this game).

12 are used for the QB and rotated throughout the game for a number of reasons (damaged, scuffed, cold, wet, etc).

3 are used for special teams/kicking.

there you have it from another episode of Between The Numbers.

Arguably a Jets fan is just as biased in this situation than a Patriots fan, albeit for different reasons. I'm sure you Jets fans would LOVE for Brady and Belichick to be gone. Perhaps you'd win a couple more regular season games that way.. Wink

Because it's hard to grip any balls with hooves.

No one is questioning the win, people are question the Patriots "cheating" and the ethics behind that. Whether the "cheating" helped them win the game or not is beside the point. That was my point... Facepalm

I don't understand why Patriot fans get all bent out of shape about their team being called cheaters. The Patriots themselves clearly don't have a problem with it. If they did they wouldn't keep cheating. Dontknow

Just embrace it--it's who they are.

Clearly this was all a setup organized by the equipment manager of the Colts. When he was given the interception ball he deflated it and gave it to the officials claiming it had been tampered with. He then arranged to have the other balls deflated before the refs could get a chance to inspect them. He knew this would take the focus off the miserable failure of the Colts in the game and give people something else to talk about.

All QBs have preferences for their football. In terms of "deflategate", it sounds like sour grapes to me. The Colts were embarrassed though the outcome of the game was not much of a surprise.

Tom Brady is one of the greatest QBs of all time. Haters are going to hate.
