So What Does Everyone Think About Deflate-Gate?

25,141 707 January 22, 2015 at 12:50 PM in Sporting Goods
The title says it. What does everyone think about this bizarre "Deflate-Gate" deal that is far more interesting that this year's Super Bowl? Belichick reaffirmed that he knew nothing at all about the football preparation and denied having anything to do with it.

Tom Brady is supposed to be talking publicly very soon and may be admitting to arranging to have the footballs prepped to the way he likes them.

So, is this a big deal? Is this something that happens with pretty much every team and it has just become public?

Guess the SD Hampsters were napping. Couldn't see it in my post at the time I replied to you but now it's working.

Watching first take this morning on the bottom scrolled that the NFL head official said that they are looking into random psi checks next year.

Its been almost 2 weeks. The league must have looked into thermodynamics by now. Wouldn't they want to clear a team in the Super Bowl of cheating before the super bowl? They could prove thermodynamics in a day or 2.

If the league does random psi checks and thermodynamics is a big of a issue as Boston scientists or Patriot fans say then they are going to constantly find deflated balls.

Either they have yet to look at thermodynamics or they don't believe its a factor.

Also again, using the same formula that would make the balls lose at least 1psi at 52° means that in those really cold games in Green Bay the ball would only be a little over 8lbs psi. 8 psi is partially flat and would be indented just picking it up. Every player would be speaking up how the ball is half way flat in really cold weather. Why have we never heard about teams playing with 8psi balls in green bay?

From your own questions - do you know where the balls are filled in Green Bay? Could it potentially be that they are filled outside to avoid just that from happening because they know the temperature differential is so severe?

And I suppose you have also not seen this:
Lawyers hired by the NFL to investigate how footballs used by the New England Patriots during the AFC Championship Game got deflated asked the physics department at Columbia University in New York to help them understand if weather could affect a football's air pressure, reports The New York Times.

According to the report, Lorin L. Reisner, a partner in the litigation department of the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, called Columbia's physics department on Monday.

"He would like to consult with a physicist on matters relating to gas physics," according to notes taken by an administrative manager.

I'm sorry they're not rushing it as fast as you want. Maybe write a letter?

Lol its the patriots who want this to go away not me. as long as the truth comes out I'm fine waiting a year.

But if I was a innocent man being accuses of something and my business ininvoles public perception I would want swift justice.

If I had a business in which my starstar worker was being accused of something immoral I would want it cleared up as soon as possible.

If the final investigation determines that the Patriots did not do anything wrong are you going to accept that outcome and move on?

Well, you're engaging in a false dichotomy. Either the league believes it's thermodynamics and they would want to clear it all up quickly, or they don't believe it's thermodynamics and that's why it's taking so long.

When it could really be one of many scenarios. The first of which being that the league itself is to blame for refs not properly checking the balls to begin with. Then, you have things like the league already having said that it's going to take several weeks before they release anything (which sounds like they're just hoping everyone forgets about it after the super bowl and moves on), or the possibility that they're hoping the "Any publicity is good publicity" mantra holds up since this has been manufactured into a "huge" controversy that people not even interested in the NFL are talking about.

You should stop trying to crucify the team over something that happened where no one really knows what that something is...

Depends on how it goes down. Kraft and Godell are really good friends and there are a lot of people in the league outside of the Patriots organization that were really upset that the league destroyed all evidence from spygate without making it available to any of the teams. Some NFL people believe spygate much bigger and the league covered it up to protect their 3 time Super Bowl champions and their own intrests.

So the Patriots being caught blatantly breaking the rules again would be devastating for the leagues image and the Patriots, Belicheat and Brady.

So the rule is that the ball used in the game has to be between 12.5lbs and 13.5lbs psi. So the rule was broken. Now it comes down to was it intentional or unintentional.

The only way 11 out of 12 balls would be deflated unintentionally would be thermodynamics. If the league shows that thermodynamics consistently effects balls across the league then I will completely accept that out come and will let this go.

If the league can't confirm that thermodynamics is consistent across the entire league but also can't come up with enough evidence to prove intention I will still view them as 2 time cheaters.

We have to remember we are in America, innocent until proven guilty. The balls the Patriots used in game did not comply with league rules, the Patriots are no longer guilty. Now its on the Patriots to prove that there is a valid explanation that can be proven to show that this was out of their control.

Well, except for the individual who deflated the footballs.

BTW former quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals Jeff Blake said he would have the ball boy take air out of the balls on the sideline before games so it didn't even have to happen in the bathroom.
