I haven't ever seen much love around here for Nascar but I figured I would see if there is enough discussion to warrant a thread.
If you don't like Nascar, if you don't get Nascar, if all it looks like to you is driving around in a circle then just go away.
If you aren't aware of the huge changes that Nascar has made in recent years it may be worth another look. Quite a few years back they started a "playoff" system known as The Chase. Last year they made a huge change in that by using an elimination system in the playoff to reduce the remaining racers eligible for the championship after each round. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the details now, but I'm interested in other opinions on both having a playoff and the way Nascar is doing it.
I welcome negative comments, but just keep it respectful and including reasons for them. If you just want to insult Nascar and oval-racing then go somewhere else.

Not sure what to expect today. The rain and cold changes the track from what everyone practiced and qualified on. I didn't watch any of the Xfinity race but when any driver leads all 300 laps in a race it couldn't have been that fun to watch. Usually any Bristol race is fun to watch but time will tell. A boring race plus having to sit through rain delays would suck. Having one driver lead the entire race would suck even more.
I posted a TON of pics from the race. If anybody is interested, they're here:

Huge difference in the Sprint Cup race from the Xfinity. Lots of strange incidents through the whole day. I didn't expect when they started the race at about 2:30 that I would have to leave for midnight shift at work before it ended.
Lots of things went on in that race but just to mention a few:
Why in the world did Kurt Busch pit with 8 laps left when he was leading?
And if I didn't know the outcome and was told that Stewart/Haas cars would finish 6th, 9th, 15th, and 38th I doubt that I would have guessed that the top two finishers were Tony and Danica
Looks like Harvick's luck ran out at least for that race.
Austin Dillon would have had a pretty great finish if he didn't run out of gas driving around in the rain under caution. I love that they waited the rain out and let them finish the race but it seemed like they let them drive around too long knowing that many of the cars would be getting low on fuel. Then again that added a little drama to the ending so it wasn't all bad.

Get any autographs? I have a friend that would loved to have been that close to Sam Hornish Jr and A.J. Allmendinger. He is a Nascar and open-wheel racing fan.
The tribute they did for him at the race Sunday was incredible. I teared up a little watching all of the crew members from all of the teams standing on the pit wall holding up the "I stand up for Steve" signs as the cars were going around the track during warmup laps.
I knew things didn't look good for him but I never expected to hear he died so soon. I hope he got to see the tribute on Sunday.

I wouldn't want to be the gas man or the rear tire changer when this happened:
Here you can see the rear tire changer's head above the flames next to the car. The gas man is backing up through the flames still carrying a partially full gas can.
Both of them are surrounded by the flames at this point.
View from above. Rear tire changer and the gas man are still in the flames at this point:
Here on the bottom you can see the gas man on fire next to the pit wall.
Now that's a burnout leaving the pits:
The gas man and tire changer were taken to the hospital with burns and a crew member from another team who put out the flames on the tire changer was also brought to the hosptial.

Is it bad that I knew it was Brenden Gaughan's car from the fourth picture?

I guess the one good thing about the rain delay was Kurt didn't win on MY day.

It's sad that the most exciting thing that's happened in Richmond in the last year wasn't even on the track.

Stewart was having a pretty good week again until he pretty much wrecked himself near the end. Not a whole lot else going on other than a bunch of cars in single file without much passing. At least not that I saw--I dozed off again for quite a few laps in the middle. Almost seemed more like a 1.5 mile track than a 3/4 mile.
Next week Talladega. I might get to watch about a quarter of that one and then will have to listen to the end on the radio at work.
