The BBC has suspended Jeremy Clarkson following allegations of a fracas with a Top Gear producer.

The BBC2 show will not be broadcast this Sunday [independent.co.uk] while the BBC investigates the allegation.

Clarkson was already on a final warning from the BBC following a string of accusations of racism.

The BBC said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation. No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

The dude is one of the most influential entertainers in the world.

ZM, it sounds like you dislike Clarkson and that seems to be influence your opinion on his re-signability.

The fact is, whatever he ends up next will inherit 300Million + viewers instantly worldwide. Those are World Cup numbers. Believe me, there are networks waiting in line to shovel money at his face
On the contrary, I find Clarkson highly amusing, in a cringe-worthy sort of way. He's like that older uncle who goes around making sexist and racist remarks but everyone likes him anyway because 1) despite that he's really funny and 2) he's a product of his generation, when people didn't know any better, yet even he knows it's wrong but he can't seem to help himself.

And if he is charged, then I stand by my statement, he'll find it hard to get into the USA on a work visa, as they've stopped other UK celebrities from working here before due to their criminal record.

Wait, I figured UK was just like America... celebrities and rich people don't go to jail?

so what is the defense for the outbreak of workplace violence, or do people really just not care because of how good the end product is?

Very, very casual fan of the show as in I'll watch it maybe once a year. However, Clarkson is what makes the show and is by far my favorite character. The other guys (even the one that had the bad car wreck) as well as the stag or stig..... I find them uninteresting.
The Stig fits well in the UK show but just doesn't seem to fit in the US version. They should have done something different when they first started the US show.

Clarkson is what makes the UK show though. Without him it may succeed just because enough of its current fan base will continue to watch but it will never be the same.

it's a shame he sold his part of the name. because it could have been rather interesting with going toe-to-toe with the front office when holding 1/2 the Top Gear name and nothing that they could really do.

Since it is still under investigation it was a foolish move to cancel airing the remaining season's 2 episodes. Even if they don't re-instate Clarkson at least finish the series. They almost may as well stop airing the now bitter sweet reruns.

that doesn't answer/address my question at all. He's not under investigation anymore, anyway.

Why decide for the viewers' who clearly are willing to tolerate imperfection or otherwise would boycott viewing after the news? Heck many would probably do what he did in his shoes. Now the violence surrounding certain NFL players...

Hammond tweeted [twitter.com]: "Gutted at such a sad end to an era. We're all three of us idiots in our different ways but it's been an incredible ride together."

May gave no comment, but updated his Twitter profile [twitter.com] to say: "Former TV presenter".
Oh really...may be he should of thought about it before swinging the punch Roll Eyes (Sarcastic). Yes, Clarkson was a very entertaining part of the TG show but he got too big for his shoes and forgot that everyone is expendable. The almost 1 million people who have signed the petition are actually signing to say that it's ok to punch a co-worker Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I think if punching coworkers was more accepted by society we would have much nicer workplaces... imagine that guy reheating his fish at 10:30 in the morning getting jacked in the jaw for it! I doubt he would pull that ish again!

Well in this case it's like having that guy who wants to reheat his fish at 10:30 in the morning punching you for not reheating it for him Wink

The 'Talent' for both TV shows and movies have always been treated differently than the crew members who produce the show are. If every time a star acted up and did terrible things on set, the star was let go for their behavior, then most of the movies and TV shows would never reach the public. The producer Clarkson hit never reported the incident and has said repeatedly that he didn't want to press charges and he just wanted the whole thing dropped. If the guy who was punched didn't have a problem with continuing to work with Clarkson, then why do you?

Oh so just because the Producer didn't want to press charges it makes it ok Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

So by your logic...If a college football player gets abused in the locker room by the coach but doesn't want to press charges then it's ok to let the Coach carry on abusing the players Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Yeah because a producer getting a split lip caused by a very drunk, tired and hungry star of a TV show is so similar to a teenage college football player being abused by the coach in a locker room.
