The BBC has suspended Jeremy Clarkson following allegations of a fracas with a Top Gear producer.
The BBC2 show will not be broadcast this Sunday [independent.co.uk] while the BBC investigates the allegation.
Clarkson was already on a final warning from the BBC following a string of accusations of racism.
The BBC said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation. No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

Top Gear co-host and automotive aficionado, Rutledge Wood and his friend and fellow car fanatic, George Flanigen, are on a mission: to rescue America's greatest rides from barns and backyards across the South.Together Rutledge and George will comb the garages of America to rescue the under-appreciated examples of automotive styling that time forgot, fix them up and get them back on the road. Their journey will take them off the beaten track, where they will get lost in local traditions, meet eccentric characters, and discover the heart of American car culture. Two friends on the ultimate road trip saving America's greatest, weirdest and coolest cars.
It won't appeal to everyone I am sure but for me old cars is one of my biggest interests and joys in life so any show involving them is worth a watch. I'm hoping at least some of their focus will be on "real" cars that would be in reach of the average car person and not just the super-rare high dollar stuff.
I will be checking out the show for sure.

The rumor that's been going round for a few weeks now is Clarkson, May and Hammond are in talks with Netflix to do a Top Gear style show, which has a working title of 'House of Cars'.
*snip*
The 49-year-old then teased: "We will be talking about what's going on with him now and Richard Hammond and James May as well – and what perhaps could be going on in the future."
*snip*
It has been rumoured he is planning a new venture with his former Top Gear co-stars Richard Hammond and James May – after the pair decided to stick by him following his dismissal.
They are also set to be joined by long-time friend and former Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman – who followed the threesome out of the BBC last month.
Last week is was reported the team are currently in talks with Netflix and ITV regarding potential future shows.

Jeremy Clarkson [theguardian.com] has said the BBC asked him to return to Top Gear before they gave his old presenting job to Chris Evans.
Clarkson said he was asked about a comeback on the BBC2 [theguardian.com] show by a senior corporation executive last week.
He said he rejected the offer because "too much has gone on" and the show would have been "impossible to make … without interference".
*snip*
But Hammond and May last week ruled out a return and are expected to join Clarkson on a motoring show on a rival broadcaster.
Clarkson said: "I had a meeting with a BBC executive last week and they asked if I'd come back to Top Gear [theguardian.com].
"But it was never an option, even with the 1 million people signing the Bring Back Clarkson petition – for which I was extremely humbled.
"Too much has gone on. After I'd been compared to Jimmy Savile by someone from the BBC [theguardian.com] and it was splashed all over a Sunday newspaper, how could I go back?
"The spotlight would have been on me and the show would end up being neutered. It would be difficult to do anything without interference. It would have been impossible to make the show I'd want to make.
"I think they knew this so that's why they gave the job to Chris so soon after I met them."

I take it Clarkson is famous and wealthy enough to the point where he does not need the Top Gear show to continue to have success. I honestly do not remember if Howard Stern did something crazy and got fired, or just failed to come to contractual terms prior to going to satellite. Regardless, I think that his audience followed him. In a similar fashion, I'm not a fan of the show but we'll see if a similar exodus of fans occurs.
With Howard Stern it was a bit different because it isn't like the Howard Stern show continued on without him when he left. He is the show and the whole thing moved with him. It's not like the old Howard Stern show is still running with a replacement while he went off to do something new. At least I don't think so--I've never been able to stand the garbage he does.
The BBC made a huge mistake getting rid of Clarkson and I probably won't watch Top Gear anymore, not because I'm a fan of Clarkson but because the BBC will very likely strip away all the stuff that made Top Gear so interesting and funny. I mean come on, when they were revamping the show, the BBC thought The Gimp was a much better name than The Stig.
Clarkson said he was offered the job back just before the BBC announced Chris Evans would be the new host. Evans, being the tool he is, had mocked Clarkson about the job offer, saying perhaps it was the voices in his head that offered him the job. Now another TV presenter has come forward to say she witnessed the meeting between Clarkson and the top BBC exec, both of whom she knows personally.
The BBC had initially denied that there was a meeting between Clarkson and any BBC executive before Evans was given the job.
Carol Vorderman [mirror.co.uk] is backing Jeremy Clarkson's claims [mirror.co.uk] that a top BBC executive approached him about a return to Top Gear [mirror.co.uk].
The television presenter said she was at the May Fair Hotel on Monday June 8 at the same time Jeremy was meeting with the Beeb boss.
The Countdown brainbox is old friends with Clarkson and said she had known the BBC [mirror.co.uk] executive for several years.
Speaking to the Sun, Carol said that after the meeting ended Jeremy explained what it was about: "It was obvious there was a conversation going on. I sat on the table behind them. I could not hear what they were saying.
"Then the TV exec left and Jeremy paid the bill. Jeremy came over immediately and we had a chat and he told me what happened.
"I am assuming he was telling the truth. We chatted for a few minutes."
Carol, who has appeared on Top Gear several times, had been meeting her daughter and Stephen Hawking's daughter for tea at the hotel.
Her support comes as new Top Gear host Chris Evans mocked Jeremy over the claims [mirror.co.uk] and said he must have heard "voices in his head".
Jeremy Clarkson, a popular British TV personality and the former host of BBC [nytimes.com]'s "Top Gear," said on Twitter on Thursday that he would film a new car-themed show for Amazon.
Mr. Clarkson, whose relationship with the BBC [nytimes.com] ended acrimoniously in March, said that he had signed a deal, and that he would be joined by his former co-stars, Richard Hammond and James May. The first show will go into production soon, and it will be available to Amazon Prime users next year, according to Amazon.
*snip*
"I feel like I've climbed out of a biplane and into a spaceship," Mr. Clarkson said, at once praising Amazon and taking a thinly veiled jab at the BBC.
In June, the BBC said that "Top Gear" would return [nytimes.com] with a new host, the radio and TV presenter Chris Evans.

I'm quite curious what Top Gear / BBC actually owns of the old ideas... does the STIG stay with Top Gear? Will the new show even keep the STIG?
I actually think Chris Evans could be a decent host for the show. The rumors around Jenson Button are interesting, too. If you threw in someone like Jodie Kidd on top of that, it could be a more interesting cast, in some ways.
and I guess I'll keep on with Amazon Prime, of course... way better than "prime day"
