OK, my hair is jumping ship at an alarming rate. I've been trying everything to make it super healthy...now I am 99% sure it's due to my Wellbutrn (antidepressant)...so now I need to back off my meds. Yeah.
Let's see...Sassy has been panting constantly for weeks. I thought her pain was increasing and asked the vet what else I could give her (in addition to her prescription med, prescription supplement, and over the counter supplement..oh and fish oil) and she said it could be Cushing's disease. After listing the main symptoms I was sure that wasn't it...so she prescribed another pain med to add to the mix....could be picked up at local pharm. They charged me 70.00. For a nice total monthly pain regimen of 150.00 to 175.00 a month for her. Now you all know I love love love my dog and would do most anything to keep her comfortable and happy. I've been questioning myself as to if I'm being selfish by prolonging her life too long. But, she seems fine otherwise...eats well, no accidents, seems happy..
Now, she is almost 16 and that's ancient for lab mixes so I've been struggling with this.
I finally decided that it has to be Cushing's even though she's not showing most of the "regular" symptoms. Tomorrow she'll go in for 8 hours of testing...total for testing now...meds for 8 or 9 weeks, then more testing??? $390.00 ugh. Then the meds she'll be on for life will only be like 150.00 for 15 weeks. I'm hoping she can be taken off more than one pain med after this..so that should help.
I can't imagine why my hands are shaky..
I do have a slight reprieve...my son probably won't be moving in until the end of April.
I hate worrying about whether or not I'm doing the right thing for Sassy.

Some of the symptoms of Cushing's is drinking a lot more water, frequent urination, accidents in the house...etc. She shows none of that. If they find that she doesn't have cushing's...or that her's is the tumor type and only surgery will give her hope...then I'll let them put her to sleep. I'm hoping that it is Cushing's and a change in meds will make her feel better.
She has to go in early in the AM...they draw blood..give her something (I think a steroid injection of some kind) then do blood checks in 4 and then 8 hours to see the results.

Now keep in mind they called to confirm this appointment a couple of days ago..
This morning they called to tell me they didn't have the vaccine there anymore and blah blah...
I was supposed to be getting my hands on quarterly breast exam also...
They just called about an hour ago to tell me they had to cancel or reschedule my appt.
A) I didn't know she was pregnant.
B) She works in an office with other GYNs so wouldn't you think she'd have something set up where one of the other docs took over her appts?
C) The other doctor that I had seen there is working somewhere else...and hasn't been there since Nov.
They can reschedule for sometime in May. WTF?
*counting to 500*
I found out where the other GYN is working now....not much farther away..so I called there, explained what was going on and they said they would see me this week and they were very pleasant and friendly. Oh and they carry the vaccine
This all feels like deja vu...
The luck of the Irish hangs on.
