RETIRED: Target Chit Chat

I would just like to say that my problem is not with what another person does, my problem is when they laugh at those of us trying to play strictly by the rules and make snide comments about if we are doing things by the book then it shouldn't matter hahaha. Well when someone comes into a store and uses 50 ETQ or whatever at a time and racks up 100 packages of diapers, things like that draw attention and make me have to stand in line with legit current coupons and four screaming boys for 45 minutes while 3 different people criticize my Q's because someone saw fit to come in and throw up all kinds of huge red flags.

If your store takes expireds willingly and knowingly, then where are you because I am coming LOL. If you are comfortable doing it because they scan then great for you, but don't say it doesn't cause problems for others becuase it does. Also, why was she allowed to make a nasty comment and noone else is? I used to use expireds and CWS and everything else as well, and one day I realized that a few bucks off is not worth me having to be away from my four babies when my butt gets put in jail, so I stopped. If others who are less paraniod then me are willing to do it, then that is great for them, but I should feel free to voice my opinion here just the same as her. I didn't tell her to shut up and take her nasty attitude off the board, so why was I told to do it when I didn't even say anything nasty, I just pointed out that what she said wasn't true?

I started Targetting last March after reading since the Nov before for BF deals. I have NEVER had issues NOR have I heard about all these limits on Qs or ETQs being shut down all together. But I have seen SO many newbies (no offense to ALL of you) that started when the Toy Qs from 07 came out doing these HUGE red flag runs. Tons and tons of Toy ETQs. Now, ETQs are going away. When for 11 months, I know I personally had NO troubles at all.

I would much rather have 50 decent runs over a long period of time than 10-12 HUGE runs over a few weeks and have it send flags up. I have made friends with my GSTLs so I hear stories. Now, I do have big runs (or what some would call Big) but I also have a family of 6 and 1 dog and 5 cats. So buying 5 gallons of milk is NOTHING! 4 loaves of bread? 20 gatorade? That right there wont even last 1 wk in my house! Toys, buy in moderation. I have also stopped doing the $10 Toy ETQ (from what I have been told, the $10 Qs send up BIG flags!) so I stopped and use the $5 instead.. which some can still give overage. Same for spicy, stopped that awhile ago as an $8 "store coupon" is definitely going to have ppl take notice.

I do use ETQs but as I have said... when I first started, the GSTL questioned them. Took them to the LOD who sat with the AP guy and came out 7-8 min later, okayed ALL my Qs and said as long as they scan, they will take them but they will not manually enter them.

I just know lately I see so MANY HUGE HUGE runs (oh, not to be holier than thou, I have done that in the past before I really thought about it!) and now all these ETQs I have been able to use for a year are going away.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY. You should just stop. All you do is complain and judge and ridicule and throw stones to the point that I doubt that anybody gives a rat's butt about anything you have to say. how do you know that the people you judge don't have 6 or 8 people in THEIR house? how do you think target REALLY came to the decision of weeding out Qs? it's NOT because of a handful of people that use (OR abuse) the coupons. there are currently (yes, i googled) 303,724,261 people in the US. i KNOW that target isn't changing their whole system across the country because of a few dozen people that use a bunch of coupons. please. get real.

do what you want. think what you want. but don't get all high and mighty about how you shop thinking you're better than all the other target shoppers. and stop throwing stones when you live in a pretty BIG glass house yourself.

Sorry, I didn't realize I wasn't an asset to this thread, thanks for letting me know...I'll keep my opinions to myself next time. NOT.

I happen to agree with your theory. If their system has loopholes in them and it accepts etq's, go for it. I do. I'm not trying to make anyone out to be the bad guy and I'm certainly not making this into a moral issue. BUT, there is a difference between using up 06 q's quickly (because they will be gone soon) and using 10 etq toy coupons in one run, especially when they're not even for the items listed.

If your store openly takes expired coupons great...go for it. But you can bet your AC totals, they will start looking at those coupons at the end of the night when they continually see a ton of them coming through.

Oh, and if it's really Target's issue to worry about, then you shouldn't have any reason to be "paranoid" and worried that they are going to come knocking on your door. Now if you were doing something illegal, like cutting expiration dates off of coupons, then I'd say you have something to worry about...because that might be considered fraud or something.

For being a "newcomer" to the thread, you're really not doing yourself a whole bunch of favors, with boasting about your big runs and whatnot. Not to mention laughing at others who are at least trying to maintain some integrity with the whole coupon usage thing. I mean, we all want this to last for a very, very, very long time, right? Outright abuse and misuse of coupons is what ruins it for others. Just because it means you get to bring your total down to nuthin', doesn't mean it was necessarily worth it. Just because it means you can bring home a cartful of groceries for pennies, and be able to show it off to everyone as your "bargain" deals, doesn't mean it was necessarily worth it. Because as we've seen lately, misuse and abuse DOES get noticed. ETQs are being cracked down on (I am definitely NOT in the group that is paranoid about this, but I do believe their home office is at least somewhat smart enough to realize there is a problem and has been working slowly on it), people have mentioned having big problems with the CWS MFQ, etc.


Bottom line - keep it cool, provide for your family, but don't blow it for the rest of us. We ALL love a great deal, so can we try to keep them coming by not taking advantage?






I totally agree with your post, and am glad you said it. Glad to know there are people out there with common sense when they shop!

I'm pretty new to these Target threads and was just wondering if there is always this much drama? It really is ruining the fun in reading all of the deals. I feel like you all are my second family. Geesh, I read this thing when I wake up, after my shower, during my lunch and before bed. I love reading and talking to you people but recently I'm debating whether or not it's worth it. Although I feel like I would be losing a lot of friends. Please people lets all get along and be a happy Target family.

First, I am fairly new, so take this for what it's worth.

I don't think Target (or whomever at target that would be incharge of this) woke up one day and said lets revamp our system to decline these coupons. I imagine there was abuse back in the days of 2 barcodes and the first step was probably to move to the 1 barcode and then to change their software (which probably had to be written just for them). Nothing about this was an overnight process. If I had to guess it was in the works before you even started 'target-ing'. So, while I agree moderation helps us stay under the radar I don't think these people caused this. Just my .02.

Whoever you want to rep (even in lounge) you can click on their profile and find a post in some other thread (regular Target thread?) and then rep them that way. I usually say "repped ya on the flip side".

By the way totally not T related but that's why we're here right? I found the Campbell's Stock Pot soup at WM for $2.98. The $4 Q worked nicely for $1.02 overage.
