Didn't know that F1 had two female drivers compete in races back in the 50's and 70's.

Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to compete in a world championship Formula One [theguardian.com] grand prix, has died at the age of 89. The Italian started three grand prix races in a privately entered Maserati 250F, finishing a best place of 10th at Spa-Francorchamps in 1958.The Naples-born driver had earlier tried to qualify for that year's Monaco Grand Prix, failing in her efforts along with another debutant, the future F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. Both were too slow to qualify but there was no cut-off in Belgium, allowing De Filippis to qualify in last place. Nine of the 19 cars then failed to finish, and she crossed the line 10th. *snip* The late Lella Lombardi is the only other woman to start a Formula 1 race, making the grid in 12 grands prix between 1974 and 1976. Britain's Divina Galica, the South African Desire Wilson and the Italian Giovanna Amati have unsuccessfully tried to qualify for the races. |

Bianchi, who was 25, died in hospital in Nice on 17 July 2015, nine months after sustaining severe head injuries at Suzuka [theguardian.com]. But this is the first time the sport has been taken to court in such circumstances.

"We seek justice for Jules, and want to establish the truth about the decisions that led to our son's crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014," his father Philippe said.
"As a family, we have so many unanswered questions and feel that Jules' accident and death could have been avoided if a series of mistakes had not been made."
Bianchi's car struck a recovery vehicle that was preparing to tow away Adrian Sutil's Sauber, which had come off earlier. The recovery vehicle, it may be claimed, represented a danger to other cars.
But at Monaco former drivers feel the Bianchi family may be misguided. The three times world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, the sport's leading campaigner for greater safety, said: "It is very sad for his family โ and one can only feel great sympathy for them. But I do not think taking legal action is the right path to go down. This can only extend their grief. It will not make the pain go away.
"Looking at the incident, the most important consideration is that double yellow flags were being waved. That means, under the regulations, the driver must slow down to such a speed that he can stop immediately should that be necessary. But he was travelling very much faster than that, and that is what caused him to go off the road."

Spoiler:
being at Silverstone on Friday for practice was awesome, got to see most of the track from Farm Curve to Becketts, For some reason you couldn't walk around the track from the view to Abbey, and it wasn't clear if I could even get past there by going away from the track, so my plan to walk around the track once during the day was foiled
I ended up watching from lap 12 on in a "sports bar" at waterloo station. Was pretty good, the british coverage without commericals was a nice touch
And because Murray was in the wimbledon final, the bar switched the TVs and the audio to Wimbledon before Hamilton even finished his cool down lap after winning

You should watch the rest of the Silverstone coverage when you get home, it was an interesting celebration and interview.
BTW, the UK live free coverage of the races is going away and people are not happy about it.

The team will retain the Sauber name, with Monisha Kaltenborn remaining as Team Principal and CEO. Peter Sauber will be stepping down and is to be replaced by Pascal Picci from Longbow Finance as Chairman of Sauber Holding AG.
"We are very pleased that by reaching an agreement with Longbow Finance S.A., we can secure the future of Sauber at the pinnacle of motorsport," Kaltenborn said, "We are convinced that Longbow Finance S.A. is the perfect partner to again make the team competitive and successful in Formula One.
"At the same time the new structure will allow us to finally further expand our third party business in which we commercialise our know-how. This solution is in the best interest of our employees, partners, loyal suppliers, the base in Hinwil and for the Swiss motorsport.
