I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Where did you hear this? Quick googling didn't yield any results. This is going to be a bummer if it's the case.

My citi forward currently still gives me 5x points for restaurants and Amazon.

edit: found it http://frequentmiler.boardingarea...ward-card/

This is a major bummer! I suppose I can use Costco Visa for dining out and Sallie Mae master card for Amazon purchases.

I'm pretty sure my Citi Forward got dropped to 1 TYP for every $1 spent. Was this not applied to everyone's Forward card?

You can use any Visa to shop at Costco, right? I know right now it's still AMEX.
Yes. Picked up a flyer from my local Costco that said:

Starting June 20, the only accepted forms of payment at Costco will be:
Visa cards
Cash
Checks
Debit/ATM cards
EBT
Costco Cash cards

citi is making like no money with this costco thing.
Of course they are, why else would they be doing this? The card's fee free, but money they'll make on the interest/balances.

You AmEx? Any information you can share on anything AmEx is planning to do to entice customers? :p

AmEx keeps it all American.
Incorrect. Absolutely incorrect. AmEx has outsourced to India as well, and perhaps the Philippines too.

Update: thought about this a bit more.

I have the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred, which is 3% gas. I also have the Citi Double Cash (Mastercard), which is 2% on everything. I also have a Chase Freedom (Visa), which is 1% on everything.

So in comparison, the Citi Costco is only 1% more on gas (4% Citi Costco vs. 3% AmEx Preferred), 1% more on restaurants (3% Citi Costco vs. 2% Citi Double Cash), and 1% more on Costco (2% Citi Costco vs. 1% Chase Freedom or any other Visa that is now accepted at Costco).

1% gas, 1% Costco, 1% restaurants? Probably not worth opening another card. Maybe good for some, but not if you already have a credit card arsenal. I will give them credit, though, as it is still an upgrade, however slight.

Given there's no AF, it's a pretty solid cashback card if that's your thing. Not to mention you're gonna get the card anyway if you had the amex.

When does the application open?
For existing Costco AmEx cardholders, there will be no application--your card will automatically be migrated to Citi Visa and there will be no credit pull either.

Thank you for sharing this information. I like the 3% cash back on restaurants and 4% cash back on gas.

Is there another credit card without an annual fee that offers higher than 3% cash back on restaurants?

With this being managed by Citi, do others also think that we can generate virtual credit card numbers for this card?

Tofu Vic
US Bank Cash+ offers 5% on fastfood restaurants (you have to choose fastfood restaurants as one of your 5% category). Then Discover and Freedom usually make restaurants as their 5% cashback category in one quarter an year.

In addition to these are premium members still getting 2% back from Costco?
I have not seen anything to suggest Costco is pulling the 2% Executive Membership rebate.

You must be wondering how Citi can give higher benefits than Amex? Well it's call outsourcing. I have been loyal member of Citi and everytime I call a customer service some guy in India is on the other side. Citi is mostly Indian.
So you believe AMEX doesn't outsource their call centers?

I don't think so, 3% is pretty high on restaurants, and 4% on gas. The cards with rotating categories will beat these for 1/4 of the year, for example Freedom offers 5% on gas right now until April 1, but I don't think there's a 4% yearly gas card for no fee.

Pretty good card, it looks like
Bank of America Cash rewards gives 3% cash back for gas rewards. And if you have a Platinum or Platinum Honors account with them you get 150% or 175% bonus on cash back, essentially increasing the 3% to 4.5% or 5.25% cash back year round.

Citi Forward that I have been using since forever is always 5% on all restaurants with no annual fee.

if they are making big bucks with this then Amex wouldn't have given it up so easily.

Amex is cutting all the lower profit stuff.

If you had the 5 point version from years ago you were grandfathered in.

Citi Forward 5x is getting downgraded to only 2x on June 4 unfortunately.

Well that's a major bummer. I haven't gotten that letter yet but I assume mine will be downgraded too. What are the chances that citi will do a product change from the forward 5X card to this new costco card?
