I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

for someone who goes to Costco only couple of times a month , will stay away from Citi card.

Will just throw in 55$ for costco membership and be done with it.
You'd have to throw in the $55 either way. Costco membership isn't included with the card.

However, if you have the Amex already and are getting the Citi card, then it is a step up in benefits vs the current Costco Amex.

$500 per month shopping/groceries plus $40 per month gas at Costco alone nets about $150 a year in cash rewards, vs. about $100 right now with the Amex.

That number scales up quickly if you use the Citi visa for dining, travel, etc. Sure you can getting better rewards (via travel with point transfers) with UR or MRP but this is just cashback for someone who might not travel that much.

You must be wondering how Citi can give higher benefits than Amex? Well it's call outsourcing. I have been loyal member of Citi and everytime I call a customer service some guy in India is on the other side. Citi is mostly Indian.
And you think Amex doesnt do that ? I have been using AMEX for 5 years now and mostly end up talking outside the US.

you still use gas just rarely. at least once a year.

Well that's awfully technical of you Smilie. But going from ~1000 gallons of gas a year down to a few dozen, I guess I rounded that minimal % to 0!

Yes, but unless you spend under $2500 on groceries, the Preferred makes double the money.
You mean $4000... since you'll be getting 5x on an additional $1500 with the Chase Freedom (and UR is worth more than cashback so it beats the Amex with a fee)

But even better than that is this combo-

Amex Everyday- which gives you 2.4x MR on groceries up to $6000

Plus Chase Freedom which gives you 5x UR on groceries up to $1500 for 1/4 of the year.

If you spent the max on both, $7500 for the year (which is nearly $150/wk on groceries) you'd end up with:

7500 UR
and
14,400 MR

Which is more valuable (potentially a lot more valuable) than the CB minus annual fee you're getting.

in theory amex wanted out. no idea if its true. visa was most likely bidding to get all the Costco users

How do you like my new portfolio?

AMEX Blue Preferred - Grocery Purchases (6%)

Penfed Visa - Gas (5%)

Costco Visa - Restaurants (3%), Costco purchases (2%)

Citi Double Cash Back - Everything else (2%)

Anything I could add to my arsenal besides Sapphire?

Do you travel?

if so then points cards > cashback cards, and you're using entirely cashback cards right now.

So this looks like a win win situation for consumers. No credit pulls, seamless transition, and better rewards. There has to be a con somewhere. I know, we have 1 less card for AMEX Twitter sync offers. Wink

I do, but I have tons of SWA miles from all the 50k signups and I have a Hyatt card that gave me two free nights. So, I do travel, but that travel is being covered by other sign up bonuses. What do you suggest?

Does anybody know whether the benefits for executive members - like 3% on gas etc. remain the same or will change to match the new visa cash backs?

You don't get 5% at penfed anymore since they devalued their points system.

1 point used to be worth 1¢, but they are now only worth 0.85¢ per point. This means this card actually gives you the following rates:

Gas: 4.25x cash back
Groceries: 2.55x cash back
All other purchases: 0.85x cash back

My AmEX gets charge automatically for my Costco membership renewal and it expires this May. Not sure if anyone already asked or answered, but will Costco automatically charge my AmEx in May then I wont be able to use it after June 10. That would suck for just being able to use it for just a month or so.
