I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

Anyone know if we'd be able to convert to this card from a CIti Dividend World Mastercard?
I have a Citi thank you premier card and just got off the phone asking if I can convert that card over to this card? The answer is no.
I canceled my Costco/amex credit card when it was announced the ending of the Costco/amex deal last year. I have other amex credit cards to use when I shop at Costco.
Currently, you can't apply for the citi/Costco card either. The conversion is only if you currently have the Costco/amex credit card.
6% (AmEx Blue Cash Preferred groceries category) on 6,000 is $360. Minus $75 (annual fee) is $285. That's what you get for groceries on the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred - $285.
Or arguably $180-75, as you could be getting 3% on the regular Blue Cash.
Partially be outsourcing customer service to India. AmEx keeps it all American.
I have several friends working in the Indian arm of Amex. There's no 100% american company except the small ones for whom there is no RoI in outsourcing.
I guess I will go back to SAMs and request Costco membership fees back. I just joined two months ago. I like buying with my AMEX for extended warranty, and return protection. They are very quick on claims.
Or arguably $180-75, as you could be getting 3% on the regular Blue Cash.
Yes, but unless you spend under $2500 on groceries, the Preferred makes double the money.
Once you've spent $2500 on the Everyday, you've made $75 in cashback as there's no annual fee and the 3% is all credited to you. Once you've spent $2500 on the Preferred, 6% of that is $150, minus the $75 annual fee, puts you as $75. So every penny spent over $2500 is then double on the Preferred than the Everyday.
Only get the Everyday if you can't meet $2500 per year on groceries. $2500 per year is about $208 per month, or $52 per week. If you spend more than $50 on groceries per week (not at Costco & check other exceptions), the Preferred is a much better deal.
AMEX made $1 billion selling their $13.9 billion costco AMEX portfolio to Citi.
Or, put another way, they recouped just $1 billion on their 13.9 billion loss
The article you linked to points to an overall grim picture for AmEx:
-Loss of as much as 8% of total cardholder spending volume in 2015
-Expectation that AmEx will cut $1 billion in expenses this year to bolster profit margins
-They may be forced to lower their MT fee, which is what they rely more on to make money off of (vs. interest/balances)
-Weaker bargaining power as it comes to MT fees
So long term, AmEx may come out OK, but short term, it's going to be rough--especially if management doesn't prove to be top notch as Buffett expects.
After incentives, <$21K OTD. I really do love the car. For $35K, no way, but I got the 2015, get >40 mile range on nice days and 37mpg driving 70mph. March 31 we'll see what Tesla has up its sleeves.

Will just throw in 55$ for costco membership and be done with it.
