Quote from jetaime :
Being a single parent is tough at times, more so when DS was younger, but it's totally changed my life around. Sure, I lived at home with my parents after he was born, used WIC and rec'd childcare assistance, etc. I probably took advantage of having the built-in babysitter because I wasn't ready to give up my party days & convert to a domesticated lifestyle. I worked full time & finished school only with the help of my parents. Got a good job at a resort after college, worked my way up, transferred & now have found a happy little spot at a family owned company. Baby daddy up & left for Jersey about 4-5 years ago, haven't seen or heard from him since. I don't depend on his money, if I had to depend on him for anything, I would be SOL.

I'm just saying I don't want to depend on anyone else for the quality of my life. Sure I'm about to have to buy a new a/c unit & I've got to call a plumber, but hey, I own a house, drive a nice car that doesn't break down & thanks to SD, have a little extra cash to afford small luxuries. Looking back at my life then, 21 with a baby, I would not have been able to finish school and work at the same time without daycare assistance. Had a rent-subsidized apt, so rent was affordable and wic helped out for a short time. I don't really know what I'm trying to say, just that back then, as a new single parent, I was ambitious to not want to be associated with a negative stereotype.

I tell ya, switching from the corporate world to a small family owned business has made a huge improvement in the quality of our lives. Appointments are no problem, I can bring him in if there are times that the babysitter is not available (he's almost 8 now), so that has dramatically decreased my stress level. It's all in what you create for yourself. If you've got the want to do it, then do it, and make a change. It's not easy, but it sure is fulfilling to see what you have earned. Most importantly, I love being a mother to such a sweet, darling, funny, thoughtful, intelligent child.

the end.
Iagree with so much of what you said. I would have never made it as far as I have today if I had not have had "the system." I was 14 years old when I got preggo with dd1 and 15 when I had her. Her "dad" was gone after about 3 months into the pregnancy. I worked HARD to get done with HS (early) and got my first Associates degree at 19 years old. I worked 3 jobs and went to college full time to get the things I felt that my family needed. I became a nurse (LVN) when most of my friends were still "figuring their lives out" and they all had kids as well.

I know that having my dd soo young was "my choice" and it took care her the best I could. She totally changed my life, and as sad as it may be, we grew up together. I would NEVER had made it as far as I have now if I hadn't of had that "reality" smack me in the face. I was a Crazy teenager and having my dd made my life more stable.

Sure, I had to get on all the "programs" to help me, but for heavens sake, that is what the programs are for. To help our fellow citizens out. We are a united nation. We should help one another. I have no problem paying the HIGH taxes I pay now since I became a RN. I was single when I went back to college the second time to get my RN and it was hard then as well. I was 22 and I thought it would be soo much easier, but it wasn't. I did it though.

I don't know what I am really trying to say (I am typing this all from our pool, trying to watch 5 kids ~not all mine~) except that you should just think that someone using "the system" is like all of the stereotypes.

I agree w Smrtshppr42, my hubby knows better. If he started saying anything about my Targeting, I would have to say something about the 2 online games he plays, for which I buy his game time cards at Target w overages.

We only have 1 car, so I usually only go out maybe once during the weekday with my SD buddy and go out more on the w/e's or after the baby goes to bed.

I am a sahm, so this helps supplement our income, by getting good deals
That's what I'm trying to do as well. I'm also a SAHM. He doesn't know that it would be nice to save even a few bucks (or make $) on buying just shampoo and soap. I'm just happy to cover the diapers that we burn through each day!

HELP! While I was at work, I guess the kids hid from dad (to make him a present) and painted with craft paint and it got on clothes and on my DDs brand new rug! How the heck do I get it out? Its that cheap $1 a bottle craft paint (acryllic I think?)
If it is paint I would spray it with "goof off" or "goo gone" spray and try to blot it out that way. DD came home from school one day and someone had "signed" their name on the outside of her jacket with magic marker EEK! I was able to get it out with "goo gone" spray. Goof off spray works great on paint as well! hth

Hey, wouldn't it be great if we could all just work full-time as deal shoppers and get paid somehow to do it and get good deals??? Cloud9
Somebody in line behind me at target actually proposed this to me once jokingly when she saw how much money I was saving! She said she'd hire me as her personal shopperlaugh out loud I guess I should've taken it more seriously laugh out loud

ok....happy things so fedex knocked on my door today and guess freakin what??? I actually got that breeze littler system that everyone may have signed up for a couple of weeks ago!!!!
Woo hoo! I signed up for that and I don't even have a cat! My neighbor has two though, and I'm offering this to her. Maybe mine will arrive soon.

Quote from Jen2882 :
Yep....I don't think my dh and I have ever had a night out together since dd was born and she turned two in March. About a month ago we had finally arranged a babysitter and dh had back problems so we couldn't go out.
Before my son was born, DH and I went out a lot. We lived in SoCal and were always dining out by the beach, then having drinks and dancing until the places closed. When I was pregnant, we'd always talk how we were NOT going to stop going out after we have the baby, we're still gonna go have fun. LMAO LMAO Well it was years until we were out partying again like that!

I'm not done with my P&G deals yet, and I only had 2 inserts...LOL! I'm going to get the Gillette and Old Spice at Walmart too. I saw them the other day, but haven't clipped those Qs yet. That floss and Infusium at T is a great deal, I got two of them. I'm going to have to do like most of you, and get extra papers when these P&Gs come out.

Does anyone know why my posts have started back over to 10? I have posted before (although not a lot because usually by the time I get to Target my deals are already posted) and when I just posted in the Target thread it started my posts over. . . is it because it has been awhile since I last posted?
TIA
That is weird, you're sure you had more than 10 posts? Some posts in the lounge don't increase your post count. I'd PM a mod or post in Site Issues & Suggestions.

Back to chit-chat about Target:

Does anyone else look at those "Win a $500 gift card for taking this survey" bits on ALLLLLL the target receipts you have lying around and think that maybe, just maybe you have enough entries this month to actually win if you only had a million free hours to actually sit on Target's website answering survey question instead of browsing SD? Just don't mix up the two! EEK!
Goof Off is petrochemical based (usually comes in a metal canister) and WILL MELT many hard plastics.
Goo Gone is some form of citrus oil derivative and doesn't really harm plastics, but does leave an oil-ish residue that is hard to completely wipe off of porous surfaces without washing them.

I used to use both quite often to remove glue from demo electronics when marketing reps would stick their promo signs all over merchandise on the shelves in the retail store where I worked. It really sucked to ruin the faceplate of a $1000 "display" stereo by grabbing the wrong bottle.

I had no luck with this...at some t's it asks for price...others it doesn't. I *bought* one to see if it asked for price before i tried the whole deal.

I really admire and respect people that can do this and I agree the system is there for this reason....what I do not agree with is people like dh's ex that lives in a rent free apartment nicer than the duplex we live in....that gets $3xx a month in food stamps....all of her and her children's medical bills taken care of, and a monthly CASH allowance from the state. She does not work and has no plans to work. Why should she?? She's got it made. Her kids literally ask for a toy and it's theirs. Where I have to tell my dd no you can not have that b/c we can't afford it and I freakin work 40 hours or more a week! Obviously every situation is different and I personally try not to cast generalizations, but it is really frusterating when we have customer's come in with their designer clothes, driving a $40,000 suv....and shell out $100+ for a movie and accidentally hand their food stamp card to us instead of one of their 10 credit cards. I'm not exaggerating, this has happened alot!

I am going to guess that anyone who is on slick deals is not one to take advantage of the system...as they are trying to save money and get good deals...not just not giving a shit.

Sorry for the mini-rant I just have a lot of frustration when it comes to this esp. from dealing with dh's ex.

LMAO My dh asked the same thing when I came home with the diego trike. We already had the thomas one. I just told him we could give it as a gift and a few days later he had opened it and put it together - it's in their blood to do that. Just let it sit a little and I bet he'll get the same itch!!
