Dicks Sporting Goods is having a bike sale with some decent prices. Available online and in store, I got mine in store and cashier offered me extra $30 off $150 coupon that worked, so I got it for $270 plus tax YMMV.

Cross-country bikes are designed to be lighter and more agile than other mountain bikes in order to handle a mix of climbing and descending over moderately technical terrain. They typically have 80-120 mm of front and/or rear travel.
Lifestyle mountain bikes are a type of hybrid bike, designed to combine the everyday functionality of a road bike and the off-road capabilities of a mountain bike. They are great entry level or "around the town" bikes. For more info: http://mountain-bikes.gearsuite

My bike is of a slightly higher quality (by about $200 MSRP), but change out for just a bit cheaper equipment and you have the sale here at Dick's: still a very solid bike.
You will not find this cheaper than $300 on clist in working condition.
Ladies, you don't really need the dropped top tube most likely. If you are shorter, you should be in a smaller frame anyway...just depends on comfort if you want the dropped top tube. The specs are nearly exactly the same for women's vs men's, the only difference is styling of the top tube.
If I or my family needed a bike now, this would be purchased immediately. They should sell out: hopefully slickdealers will see this and buy them. Happy shopping!!
