The 2015 Diamondback Axis Sport is a cross-country mountain bike, whereas the 2015 Diamondback Overdrive Sport is a lifestyle mountain bike.

Cross-country bikes are designed to be lighter and more agile than other mountain bikes in order to handle a mix of climbing and descending over moderately technical terrain. They typically have 80-120 mm of front and/or rear travel.

Lifestyle mountain bikes are a type of hybrid bike, designed to combine the everyday functionality of a road bike and the off-road capabilities of a mountain bike. They are great entry level or "around the town" bikes. For more info: http://mountain-bikes.gearsuite.c...rive-Sport

You can get bikes with belts, but the price goes way up... The belt is more expensive to make. And, it would have an internal hub in the back, much more expensive. You would never come close to these prices with those options.

i know. Frown

That Kona is in a different league (better).

Just make sure it fits you properly or could with minor adjustments.

This is what I would recommend to people who really want to mountain bike. Buy a clean used bike. If you don't think you can judge it as solid, have the seller meet you at a bike shop and pay a few bucks for them to give it a once over.

made in china, per the website. might as well buy a $150 dollar bike from walmart and get their 2 year unconditional warranty for $15. same quality, half the cost and walmart has to replace and install broken parts.
Not a chance in hell it's the same quality.

And while this isn't a "real" mountain bike I would want to take on an full day adventure of going up and down a mountain, a Wal-Mart bike would most likely break something on the way up. Then you (and your friends) are out of luck when you're 30 miles from a Wal-Mart Wink

I'm 5' 7" and bought the 16" small sized frame, but found myself wanting more distance between the seat and the handlebars, so the manager at Dick's (super nice guy) broke the rules and let me replace it with the 18" medium sized frame. The 27.5" wheels on this bike are great and suit me perfectly. Having a 26" bike for the last 15 years, I wasn't quite ready to move up to a 29'er. Word of advice, be prepared to get a new saddle if you buy this. The one that comes with it is as comfortable as a piece of wood. You can pick up a cheap one on Amazon for $10-15 that will be sufficient.

The reviews on the website are about as fake as they get. Anyone actually read them?

Social media interns at work.
Fake reviews on Dicks website? That's laughable! Don't think they need to fake review items on their site!

How do you guys think this compares with the Nashbar AT2? Seems to be the same components, but the AT2 is $239 after the 20% coupon.

If also using for light trail use, can't beat the big bens, they're just big apples with a little deeper tread.

Also, the fork is really going to be your first big upgrade item, these $35 suntours that come on all the $500-600 bikes are basically over glorified pogo sticks. In my case I upgraded one of these for some relatively cheap rock shox solo air 32s. Insane difference.

Rules of thumb on sizing. For an average rider with the following inseams you should look for a 27.5 MTB in the following frame sizes:

15" - 27" inseam and below
17" - 28-29" inseam
19" - 30-31" inseam
21" - 32-33" inseam
According to the Diamondback.com sizer my wife needs a 15" frame. She's 5'4" and 30" inseam. And that was on the lower end of 15".

I am looking for a bike to ride to and from work; All paved road/sidewalks, some hills and a lot of traffic. Is there anything on Dicks that will require minimal changes for me to buy and use? I'm 5 foot 2inches don't know my inseam but will measure it when I get home.

Thanks for your help!

I've been casually shopping for about 2 years for a better than Walmart but not 600+ bike. In for 1, thanks OP.

I didn't see in the description, but does the bike come with a kick-stand?
