I have the 401K already with my job.. I watch the Suze Orman show everyday and it seems to me I need an IRA. Is there a minimun transfer? Do all banks have one. I am with the credit union through my job. I just thought about doing this a few hours ago.
check out trowe price. I love their asset builder IRA, it auto deducts from my checking account every month so I don't have to think about it. Also they have the age band ones so you say you want to retire in 2035 and it auto invests for you. Good for some, not for others. You decide.

I feel the same way about deals, everyone is all over each other these days

I had 2 runs today, one fantastic, one OK. Need to go back later as we forgot something.

At one store, the always bogo prompted for price for EACH one. That's an update I havent heard of.

You are a smart girl (assuming you are a girl)...you gotta pay yourself first! Like Doublesided said set it up so you transfer funds automatically and you won't even miss the $ that you are putting away. You adjust to it and spend less.

You can do that with the 529 plan college fund for your kids as well, I just write it in my checkbook first of month, it's so nice.

Tech question. I picked up some darn Trojans on my PC. How the heck do I get rid of them? I've been lucky this morning being able to post here because they are randomly redirecting me to pages and causing new explorer windows to open and go crazy. I'm so computer dumb I don't want to a. cause further damage or b. think that it has to be professionally removed when it doesn't. Are there any free online removal things that work and won't infect me worse?
I highly recommend this, and there was a link in Hot Deals a few days ago to get a one year license on the upgraded version for free.

I don't loan $ anymore, no matter what the circumstance, bad situation a few years ago. Maybe they forgot about it, you should remind them now and say that money is tight and you can use that loan that you gave him/her back and give them options to send it to you. If nothing within a week, remind again. You need to be strong willed about it or you won't see it back. Worse case you lose a friend, which IMHO isn't one if they treat you like this. Best case you get your $ back and learn a lesson on lending, don't lend to friends! $20 at a dinner or something is one thing, but large quantities don't lead to good results
a couple years ago i loaned a friend something like $250. her car needed some major unexpected repair work done and she didn't have enough to cover the whole expense. i normally don't loan large amounts of money either, but this particular friend is a very generous and giving person, very trustworthy and would never borrow that much without intention of paying it back. and.. she did within a month. Interesting stockpile sale today. Big Grin I was outside at 6:50. By 7:15 I had already made $50! Vince didn't even get a chance to get my signs out until 8:30. My last customer left at noon. So, from 7-noon I made $655. I really thought I would have made closer to $800, but I'm not disappointed. I sold 19 pkgs of diapers, almost all of my Herbal Essence. I sold all of the Pert @ $1.50 and it flew. I sold a TON of H&S @ $1.50. My razors sold pretty well at $2. A few hair color but nothing spectacular (maybe 10 boxes?). I had most of it priced at $1. The P10 @ $2. Baby wash-- gone. All of it.

Disclaimer: Big Grin I'm very pleasant at my garage sales but I do have to turn my back to keep people from seeing me roll my eyes at some of the stuff they do or say.

Get this-- I leave a card table set up beside my chair for people to use to make piles of their stuff. I had one lady pile her stuff up and as I was checking her out and bagging her stuff, she knocked a baby wash on the floor and busted the lid. She picked it up and apologized for busting it, put it aside and grabbed another one leaving me with the busted lid. WTH?

I had another guy (when I had my back turned) squirt a palm full of the Nivea shave gel into his hands. We're talking enough for 5-6 shaves. It's that kind of shave gel that lathers up like crazy as soon as you squirt it. I turn around and this grown man had a HUGE palm full of white shaving cream. I look at him square in the eyeball with this look of "you have GOT to be kidding me." He looks at me with his palms up and gives me this look like "do you have any water, what can I do about this?" I turned around and left him to figure it out. I could have offered him my spigot beside the house, but I was too irritated-- and HOT! It felt like it was 100 degrees outside! I'm in no mood for crap and nonsense! He ended up trying to wipe it off in my grass, which made an even bigger mess for him because DH had just mowed the lawn the day before so he was covered in grass clippings AND shaving cream.
i have no idea why people even do this. seriously, when i was working retail, we'd have to clean up the shave aisle at least once a week because they would 'test' it by spraying it all over our shelves. Mad
i just don't get the point - i mean really, what exactly are they testing for? it's a $2 shave gel, what do you expect out of it?

that's not going into people who like to 'test' hairspray before buying. some people.. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

A bit off topic, but I know a lot of people here also Kmart and Walgreen's shop.

If you found the peelies on the Kotex at Kmart for buy a 20-22 count pad or Tampon (I think the count is 18, but not sure as I didn't buy these), get a 48-60 panty liner for free, then you will want to use them at Walgreen's today. Well today is the last day of the Walgreen's sale. I would have posted this earlier, but just figured it out today.

Walgreen's has buy two kotex for $6 (selected sizes, that the coupon would include), get a $2 RR. Then you buy one pad or tampon and one panty liner. The Kmart peelie takes off $3, and if you also have one of the Smart Source $1 off Kotex pads or the .75 off Tampons you can use them as well.

The Smart Source coupons are from the following inserts
Kotex Pads, any $1 (8-3-08) SS 6/8/08
Kotex Pads, any $1 (9-14-08) SS 7/20/08
Kotex Security Tampons, any .75 (9-14-08) SS 7/20/08

Walgreen's Kotex deal
So 2 for $6
less peelie - 3
less SS coupon -1 or .75
less RR -2

Final Cost 0 or .25 for a box of pads or tampons and a box of panty liners

I know everyone has stocked up on the free stayfree at Target with the BOGO stayfree and the Target $5 off 3, but the Walgreen's deal is also very good. Also if you are like me you have a lot of Walgreen's money to spend from all the other deals.

Target Stayfree deal
For me 6 for $2.84 (smallest stayfree pad packs) = $17.06
less 2 $5 TQ -10
less 3 BOGO -8.52

Final Cost overage -1.46

Just remember on the Walgreen's deal to only buy two at a time, because only one RR will print per order. I ended up with 7 boxes of pads and 7 pantyliners for free. I was at Walgreen's getting my razors and Vive anyway, so I looked through the ad and saw this possible deal. Hope this helps someone, as I know this is something that most of us can use! Also I visited three Walgreen's today, so I could get a reasonable amount of products at each store.

OT but you guys are a WEALTH of information! We paid the funeral home costs for FIL ($3600) that came out of our vacation money. Now, I filed DH's claim for life insurance that his father had for him (he only gets $1600). I told him I am off to the PO to take care of that. He says good, my mom needs $2k to pay her August bills!EEK! WHAT??? That leaves us VERY little spending money on our cruise in August and our free Disney trip in September. Who knows when her policy will arrive.

I remembered my dad telling me about borrowing against a whole life insurance policy. DH and I BOTH have whole life and have been in it for awhile. I need to borrow about $3K off it to help MIL out and give us a bit of a cushion. If I do it, how much do I pay back a month and how fast could I get it? I know there has to be some cons but we do NOT do credit cards and we need to help MIL for the short term until the ins pays off her claim.

BTW, sorry to hear about the $ deal...hopefully the person will make it right. A friendly reminder should do the trick. DH always loans $ but calls it a loss when they don't pay. Let's just say I have decided for him that we can't loan $ out any more. He'll pick up side jobs for friends (he is a plumber) and tell them not to worry about when they pay him. Well you know how that goes. I am sure he has a couple grand out in IOU's.
EEK! OMG!! I think our DH's might've been separated at birth LMAO LMAO
My DH is a plumber that is constantly lending $ out (usually to his family members that for one reason or other (usually laziness) don't want to work...shake head ) and we've NEVER been paid back any of it. He's been "remodeling" my guest bathroom for two years b/c he's so busy doing "free" sidework for everyone else that he doesn't have the time or energy to work on our own house... I'm so glad that I'm not the only one!!! bounce

Well done! I know ppl are idiots. There is always someone that wants to pay way too little. I totally expect ppl to deal at a gs but I am not going to give them stuff I can use myself (shampoo, ect)

I had a yard sale yesterday (first time for me!) and made $550.00! bounce I don't have near the stockpile a lot of you had, and was hoping to make $200 or so. Imagine my surprise when I more than doubled that! Stick Out Tongue My DH and DD were all doubters too - saying people wouldn't pay $2 for shampoo and that I'd better mark everything $.50! They were WRONG!

snip!
Nice job! My Dh was the same way, totally all about the bargains after my first gs.

I do not know anything about borrowing against whole life, I do know however that you should GET RID OF IT and get term life instead. You can pay so much less money for much more coverage. Dh and I are covered for over 2 mil combined and we pay $27 per month. Maybe if you are older it would make a little sense to buy whole life, but you are much better off with term and dumping that extra $ into another high-yield interest investment. Good luck!

Now DH is VERY encouraging for me to go shopping! Usually he hates it -but he wants me to have a sale every WEEK! I got laid off on June 30th, and he's thinking this will be my new "job"! I think I'd get worn out doing all that shopping!
That is what I do! Big Grin I'm a SAHM since my kids are little (6 1/2 and 3) and can't see going back to work until they're at least both in school full time. Then, I'll work around their school schedule. I actually make more money selling my stockpile than I would working PT. DH shleps my stuff all over and is so proud of my money making hobby. Big Grin

ANOTHER story from my garage sale today:

I had one young lady who wanted to know if I would give her the diapers for $3 rather than $5 if she buys all of them. I told her (nicely) that I don't haggle and that everything was well below retail. She was really ticked that I turned her down (I think more embarrassed than anything) so she scoffed off to her husband who had an armload full of razors, shampoo etc. and told her DH "come on-- and something like not needing anything here." wave So, I'm in the baby section of Target today with my back to the main aisle and I hear a scooter come around the corner behind me. It's the SAME LADY from my garage sale!! I walk a little further down the aisle in front of the Huggies shmuffling through my coupons so I can hear what she is saying (Yea, I was eavesdropping. Shoot me. Big Grin ) Her husband said, "See! I knew $5 was a good deal!!" HA!! It was all I could do not to crack UP! I made a point to wait until they left the aisle--- with an empty shopping cart. Am I bad or what?? Big Grin I wonder if she'll make her way over to my next sale dying to pay $5 for a pk of diapers?

Thanks! If it's used crap, I don't care-- take it! I'm practically giving it away. Brand new stuff in the pkg marked at sometimes 75% off retail- no way. I don't haggle. That's when I usually go into my shpeel about how much the item is at Target, WM, CVS, Walgreens. They get an earful. Big Grin
