I've frozen the deli meat before and it was fine after I defrosted it in the fridge.

You probably already know this, but I would recommend getting an ice chest and filling it with the things you will need if the power goes out. Then keep the refrigerator and freezer shut. Everyone tells me if the power to the freezer had been off, but the door had been shut, my food would have all been fine, probably for several days.

We freeze it all the time when there's a good deal.

Ok, so a confession and a pet peeve: I'm so anal about my inserts that I go through and pull out all of the extra random sheets in there that don't have coupons but only advertizing for "checks in the mail", girdles, coin collections, etc. And that is also my pet peeve - the fact that they include these sheets in there. Don't they know that these extra sheets add up and make the inserts harder to store - grrr...
I wonder what kind of people buy the stuff that is advertised in the inserts laugh out loud I know they're out there... but what are they like!

Thanks for all the kind words about my ordeal! You know how it is though, sometimes a new day makes things seem better. Although still just unbelievable, today I think it will be ok.

At least my freezer is working, thank God! heart And dd came in last night and gave me the most grown up apology ever. I think she knows how much trouble she caused by being so concerned about getting back to her computer game (instead of fitting the stuff in carefully, like I asked). So, life goes on.

I won't file a homeowners claim, although I know many would. I work for the insurance company that insures us, and officially "dd stupidity" is not covered under HO insurance. I just wouldn't feel good about lying to get it covered, and know that I would get fired if I did turn the claim in and my lie was found out. Losing my job is just not worth what I could collect for the stuff that was in my freezer.
hug Comfort My SDing heart breaks for you - I can't even fathom your frozen loss. My mom offered to give me her big freezer when she sells her house, and as much as I'd love it (our little freezer is filled to the gill with cheap tombstones atm), our apartment is in a house built in 1900... the wiring isn't too good - first night here we lost power in our kitchen, bathroom, dining room AND master bedroom - as well as the people upstairs in their bedroom. Apparently we blew a fuse - but when the maintenance man was toggling the correct fuse in the morning, none of the stuff up here went on and off. I just hope it doesn't happen again!

pasta recipes

someone plz tell me some basic simple pasta recipes for kids...and plz break it down barney style (that's the word we use arnd here, right)...
Well between shopping and going to Sea World SA this weekend I have gone, but I wanted to add what I make

This is my mom's receipe but even our picky friends loved it when they came over for dinner.
I use half the receipe for my small family of 4.

1 bag egg noodles cook according to directions on bag.
drain noodles and place in a casserole dish.
1 cantainer sour cream I think the 12 oz? if it looks like to much just add it a little at a time till it looks right to you, right would be all the noodles coated but you can still see the noodle, NOT swiming in sour cream.
1 can tuna drained
mix tuna sour cream and noodles.
add salt and pepper to taste( I just shake the conter over it a few times)
small can of corn, drained, optional, also mixed in.
cut up 1-2 Tablespoons of butter or margerine across the top,
cover with grated cheddar cheese
and bread crumbs or crushed saltine crackers.
Bake at 350 for 15 min or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

for my girls I often cook up shapped pasted (penne, bowtie, flowers) cook as directed.
Heat up some spaghetti sauce, just add a spoonful or two of sauce on pasta.

Make this a casserole by putting noodles, and pasta sauce in a casserole dish, cook up hamburger or sausage and mix in as well, cover with mozzerella cheese, cook in over for 15-20 min until cheese is melted and bubbly.

It's true, ours was off for almost two days and I was sure when I opened it everything would be bad but it had been closed tight and everything was fine, just starting to get soft but still mostly frozen. I was amazed and went from feeling that horrible sick feeling to happily relieved. Whew!

If the power goes out, don't even open it to check at all. With kids around (and DH) I would tape it shut, seriously!

I've always wondered too, there has to be some people out there in those strange pink slippers, wearing one cup fits all bras, and writting more home ordered checks for fairy and bird statues.

Now that you've made the mental picture for me... sounds like some of my relatives Roll

So yesterday, my b/f went out to look for birthday presents for me - he's not doing it on my birthday this year so Whee I gave him the $10 Body Shop coupon, told him exactly what to get with it - told him do not buy me anything else, you've seen my cosmetic closet and extra shelving units.

So what does he do? Buys me more stuff... I was more mad at him for not using a second coupon than anything else Sadwalk

Lesson learned - do not let him shop alone and/or with coupons Smilie He also went a little wild at best buy Blowup And worst of all... he got a blizzard and didn't bring one back for me! That right there is sleep on the couch material laugh out loud

Hi Target peeps wave

I went on a family vacation for a few days (it was great, to Northern Michigan) - it looks like I missed the FB coupon frenzy - crap Mad I never go anywhere - oh well - I guess there will be another frenzy around the corner. laugh out loud

It was nice to get away with the family. It sucks to pay such high prices for dinners, gas, fees, etc. I guess that is why we do all the coupon cutting and savings deals, to afford to do nice things too sometimes. nod
Same here, but I was smack dab in the middle of Target land (Mpls) and didn't go to one!EEK!

Hi all...no time to catch up, hope all have been well. If there's anything new and great going on, please share.

I am in a state of total shock right now. I know if I'd just cry I would feel better, but I am just too shocked.

I know some of you will understand my angst. This afternoon, DH discovered the door to our upright freezer in the garage slightly open. Last night, DD put a few things in it for me and I guess she didn't close the door good. End result? Everything in it was ruined except two cheesecakes and a pecan pie.

I almost had a breakdown, it was FULL to the gills with stuff I've gotten through great deals, including tons of meat. DH says it could have been worse, had we not noticed when we did, the meat could have been so spoiled when it was found so as to make us sick just to clean it out. And he cleaned the coils and checked it, we're hopefully that running full blast trying to cool a whole garage didn't totally ruin the freezer.

So, if you see any great deals on frozen foods, please pass them my way.
OMG, it is something about 13 yo DD's. Mine did this once when she was helping herself to ice cream. I caught it within a couple hours and was lucky. I was sooooo mad I hollared "no more ice cream for you, I don't care if it is FREE!!!!!". She did the same things and after a few hours of thinking about it came an apologized and said, "you're right mama, if I am not responsible enough to make sure the freezer is shut, I don't deserve a special treat like ice cream". Guilt trip queen! But she did really mean it.

Growing up we had 2 upright freezers in the basement. There were 6 kids in my family so, I learned how to stockpile from the best of the stockpilers! There were many times one or the other freezers was left ajar. That was financially devastating to a family of 8 with one income. My dad placed latches on the doors and even a padlock. We were little and mischievious, so they needed to lock up the goods. When we got older (pre-teen & teen) they replaced one of the freezers. No padlock, but my dad did place velcro pieces on the top and bottom of the freezer. I think they were bright yellow and the top one was at eye level. You knew you had to re-velcro the door to the tab on the freezer. It was a great visual reminder to make sure the freezer door was completely closed!

BTW, I have no soda at work...how am I gonna make it through a Monday without caffeine!!!! One cup of coffee just isn't gonna cut it.

I hear the Rite Aid on the corner calling my name LMAO
