My day is kinda weird so far. Normal in a way.
Kiddo is going back to school today. Yea, it is just like last year. MOM, I need you to sew my pants, MOM I need these stains out NOW. MOM....I need more t-shirts. MOM I need more....MOM I need an iron. MOM I want to go now.

Like excuse me, you have been home for almost three months, you just found out your pants that you haven't worn since May needs to be resew again. Hello There! I am like t-shirts you are required to have how many? Where is the other dozen of them. Socks too.

Then of course, I am like we need to leave like now. Him, MOM I don't need to be at school until tomorrow. I am like, yep. But I work 8-4. You will be how many hours late do you want to be? School wants you there today.

He is shaving and getting ready. Pantry of all snack food has been cleared. All air fresheners are removed. A boy taking smelly things to a military school. At least his dorm room smells nice. Smilie

O k, I need to see if I am supposed to answer any more MOM things to do. I told him departure time was 11. It is 11:30. We actually need to leave at 12:30, smart mom.

I will catch up with you all after kiddo gets settle in school. We have a drive to do .

Iagree Most of the time they make the first appointment for a set amount of time, so after they do xrays, exam, etc the appointment time is used up, so they reschedule for a later date to do the work, but four months does sound like a long time based on that article, especially since the dentist himself said they needed to come out.
well see that's what i thought too and why i was so mad about it. i had a feeling they might try to make us come in a 2nd time, but 4 months later is wayyy too long to wait to go back in.
Quote from doublesided :
4 months is way too long. I'd get another opinion. But you have to have the $ to do that
dh and i do have the money to pay for it. the problem is when i took ds to the dentist yesterday i could only fill in the information for ME, not dh. so to them, it looked like i was some bum who couldn't/ wasn't going to pay. we were given worse treatment than when we had medi-cal a few years ago. shake head
i got a strong feeling that if dh had been there to fill out his info (i can't sign his stuff for him) we wouldn't have been avoided/ ignored like the plague.

most offices are closed today so i need to call around again on monday. and this time i'm going to schedule so dh can be there and sign over his info so we don't look like losers. i feel like an idiot for going in the first time without him because i forgot that they ask for all that crap on the forms. Oh that is terrible, makes the medical/dental community seem really caring. Also just because you didn't provide proof of insurance, doesn't mean you wouldn't pay. I just love their assumptions. Just goes to show that they know their services are so over priced that the average person who really doesn't have insurance can't afford it. Medical services are done very poorly in this country.

When I worked at one company that was partially owned by some Danish men, I got a lesson in medical. When they came to live in the US, they didn't even know what medical/dental insurance was, because that wasn't needed at all in their country. They said things like Oh you Americans and your insurance and insurance forms to fill out. Apparently over there all medical for everyone is paid for, and included in the tax base, so everyone was cared for regardless. They found it hard to believe that many people couldn't get quality care, even those who worked, because of lack of "insurance."

I haven't had insurance for a long while now... it sucks. I've been very lucky though with my dentist office, they're so wonderful to me - genuinely concerned about my health more than my ability to pay (never been an issue so far, they also issue discounts if you pay with check/cash rather than a CC)

Do you have any dental schools around you, shopgirl? I know many people who have had orthodontic work/dentistry work done at the dental school at the university here for very reasonable prices.

On an unrelated note... I just got a call from Borders, an order is in Confused No idea what this one is, all mine were done a while ago I thought laugh out loud

Shopgirl... I am sorry to hear about your treatment at the dentist. Been there a few times. I hate when other people make you feel like scum. Nobody should treat you like that, whether you have money or not. Is there NO other dentist in the area that would take you now that he's been seen? Or can you drive an hour away to go to someone that will? Now that he has a dental history maybe you can get in elsewhere. Or, call and speak to the dentist directly about the way his staff made you feel. Usually if I have staff issues if I talk to the dr/dentist they want to know.

We tried for 1.5 years to get pg with my first; took 4 years with the 2nd. 3rd child came along 2.5 years later. We weren't trying with the 3rd, we just figured if it happened, it happened. I'd like a 4th child but DH would not Frown I would love to adopt a foster child. We were foster parents last year. DH said he would not do be foster parents again.

I had a stressful evening last night, missed out on the SF stuff completely. We had someone park in front of our house but then didn't come in. I go out to check on them and they were looking for my next door neighbor, who apparently hasn't been paying her mortgage. So he is starting the proceedings to foreclose on her. Her DH is in Iraq so essentially she's a single parent now. I just wanted to cry. The house on the other side of me is abandoned; they left 3 months and it's up for sale from the bank now. Neighbors across the street are being foreclosed on, too. The other 2 neighbors I talk to who have kids my son's age are leaving in 2 months for new homes, too.

anyway, seeing the guy searching around for my neighbor made me sick with anxiety. We are in the same position many millions of Americans are in. We have an ARM and are completely upside down in our loan (about $185K upside down, if you compare the REO sales). DH is a teacher, we're not rich by any means. Sick thing is we had a stated income, we put 20% down on this house to avoid PMI, we had planned on refinancing in 1 year but then it had already depreciated too much in value...now we lost all that money and may lose our house in the next year like everyone else in our neighborhood. I stay up sick over this issue for hours every week.

I'm sooo thankful for what we have, a house is just a shelter spot, but it does worry me. And then seeing the guy yesterday and hearing him rant to me over her not paying just brought it all up again vomit

I was goign to take my kids to Build a Bear to use my daughter's bday coupon. May have to stop by Target to look for Mama Mia peelies. I'd love to give my brother's girlfriend (almost fiancee laugh out loud ) movie tickets for Christmas for them to see movies.

I think that is great that you have a dentist that cares and will work with you. Something positive to report! nod

Around here if you don't have insurance the price of the doctor/dentist is usually more than if you have insurance. This was explained to me as being because the insurance companies negotiate deals/discounts with the doctors. So in other words a doctor visit for an uninsured person might be $100, but if that same doctor visit was run through the insurance the insurance company might discount the price down to say $79 or so. I never thought that was fair that an uninsured person would pay more, and it took me a long time to understand. But I guess it is the same theory as buying in bulk. Essentially I guess this is what an insurance company does.

to be honest i rather think dental insurance is a bit of a joke.
i had it when i had my wisdom teeth removed. for whatever reason, when i went in the first time i didn't have the insurance card with me so paid cash (debit). so about $100 a tooth + $300 to get half my mouth deep cleaned since i hadn't been to a dentist in like 10 years at the time. the next time i went in to get the other 2 removed and the other half cleaned i brought the insurance card and they rebilled me. copay came out to $50 a tooth + $150 for each half cleaning, but they billed my insurance company $200 a tooth and $1000 for the cleaning (whole mouth).
i don't understand that. why would the rate charged be different with/ without insurance? why isn't the price the same for everyone? sure, i was happy because i paid less oop, but i feel that's wrong. i just don't understand how can it be right for a facility to charge insurance companies 2 - 3 times what the patient would have paid "cash charge". Nono

its no wonder why insurance is such a ripoff. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

i didn't like my medical insurance either, because the deductible was such that i would never meet it (i'm someone who rarely goes to the doctor), but yet i couldn't afford to pay the monthly premiums for a lower deductible.
i'm not kidding. when i had my lady's yearly exam, the insurance company covered $5 off a $300 bill. i didn't have ANY other medical needs during the 5 years i had that plan. it was soo not worth having $200 whacked off my paychecks for that every month.

but then again, you know the second you don't have insurance is the second crap happens. so it's an evil catch 22.

die, evil insurance companies, die!!

So...Tix 9.25+1.00= 10.25 pay w/ GC1 -10.00 = .25 pay with GC 2 total $0, GC remainding balance $9.75

Then again...Tix 9.25+1.00= 10.25 pay w/ GC2 - 9.75 = .50 pay with GC3 total $0, GC remainding balance $9.50
Oh, I know. I am just being a big whiny baby b/c really this is a great deal. Big Grin

I just feel like somehow I want to figure out a way to get that extra $2.75 worth of "value" off of the Ponds tix. Lame, huh? laugh out loud

well...there is in a way. Print all your tickets out now but don't turn them into Fandango codes until a day or two before they expire. This way you can use the extra (like for an evening show) and not lose the difference. I wish it would be a $12 gift card and not $10, too. I wonder if we did it in multiples of 12 it would work... if we put in 5 codes at one time, would it give $60 or $50? if it is $60 then you don't lose that extra Big Grin
sbhiggins;12631801]By "everything" you mean the page with your name and email, or the next page w/the cc information?

I didn't have any trouble w/this but others have posted: don't try to send it to more than one email, don't put your own zip code in the zip code box (it's the billing zip code for the fake mastercard you are using that you want to fill in) and check all the numbers to make sure you got them all right. And make sure you choose "Mastercard" and not a different type of credit card b/c each type has a different number of digits in the cc number.

hug SoCalGal, I'm so sorry to hear about your worries. I can't imagine how stressful that must be. It's really good that you are thinking about it now though. . . I know with so many folks in trouble, a lot of banks really want to help folks avoid foreclosure (not out of the goodness of their hearts vomit but b/c they don't get nearly the $$ with foreclosure as they do otherwise).

It's a terrible thing to have to lose your home both emotionally and financially. Have you talked to your lender about your options? I'd think you would be in a better position by not letting it get to a crisis point first (like your neighbor did).

Anyway, it this is not what you need to hear, feel free to ignore. I just hope things look up for you.

laugh out loud Sorry, the way I snipped your quote is kinda funny-- I know the situation isn't funny though.

Those are some terrible stories. I think we must be lucky-- our dental insurance and dentist has been wonderful. Neither DH nor I had been to the dentist the entire time we were in graduate school together (about 7 years) so when he got a "real" job here we both got on the dental insurance plan. Our mouths were a mess-- I was so arrogant to think b/c I'd always had really healthy teeth, that I could go so long w/o going to the dentist and it wouldn't matter. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) We had to pay some co-pays but really everything has been covered since then. Our dentist has been great to us-- but he was highly recommended by a bunch of our colleagues and since we're all on the same plan he may be raking in the big $$$ through the insurance.

Of course it's not like the insurance is free. And like my DH says, paying for insurance is like making a bet against yourself-- it only pays off if something bad happens. So that's the catch-22 of insurance. Or, when you really try to use it, then they drop you (That's what happened to my mom. She needed an emergency hysterectomy and after the operation her insurance dropped her. Mad )

I agree that the big problem with our medical/dental system here is that the prices of stuff are scaled for the insurance companies, not average folks who want to pay cash. Thus, those for whom insurance doesn't make sense get screwed royally.

That's weird. . . I might just try again later, or maybe from a different computer. Sometimes I have to use my DH's 'puter as some websites hate Macs. (But I didn't have any trouble with Fandango).
