‘Firefly’ Cast Talks Netflix Not Picking Them Up Yet, Scene We Never Got To See and more

The group (Nathan Fillion, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, and Summer Glau) gathered at Long Beach Comic-Con for a panel moderated by Heat Vision's Aaron Couch. Among the highlights of the panel, the cast was asked if they thought creator Joss Whedon would ever actually come back to Firefly if the opportunity arose, given the size of the movies he's made since.

This led to a conversation on the topic which included a response, Fillion making a surprising case for not reviving the series (not that he wouldn't return in a heartbeat like the rest of them, I'm sure—but that having just that one great season and movie isn't the worst thing in the world), and Staite declaring she and Maher want more and wonder why Netflix hasn't made it happen.

This reminded me to see if I can buy Con Man season 1 for a reasonable price yet. And no, it's almost like they're going out of their way to not take my money.
If the DVD was on Amazon for $10 I'd buy it right here and now.

I bought it from whatever streaming service they used because I wanted to support them. I was disappointed. Maybe because it was hyped SOOOO much I had high expectations, who knows.

Even if they don't resurrect Firefly, Netflix could always make a new show set in that same universe. It wouldn't be as good as getting the original crew back, because let's be honest... they were amazing, but I would be really happy to get another chance to explore that 'Verse in any way, shape, or form. It was such a compelling setting, that I think a new show would have a decent chance of being really really good.

I think it was $25 for the first season on Vimeo when it was new. It hasn't really been hyped for me, just aware enough to catch my interest.

Could be cool, but it's a complex recipe that I have little faith in being executed well.

i know i'm in the minority, but i never cared for Firefly (the series or the movie). then again, i'm not a sci-fi or western guy, so it already had two strikes.

from a pure publicity perspective, it's baffling that Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, or a lesser known streamer hasn't jumped on it. the amount of interest seems to be very high, and as Futurama showed, even if you don't come back with your best material, previous fans will still watch.

however, it did suffer from lower ratings while it was on (though the episode order and shifting time slots were at least partly to blame) and space westerns are very expensive to make. but i'd think you could build up a lot of goodwill and new memberships by leveraging IP with such a loyal fan base. it's not like any of them but Fillion have major scheduling problems.

I think there's a lot of good material that never got explored and could be mined to make a new show. Obviously it's unreasonable to expect lightning to strike twice and recreate the magic of the original show, but they could still make a damn good show.

Does Fox still own it? My memory is bad today, and in before the MLV reply 'Today?!'

I got in on the kickstarter. Not sure how much I paid, but whatever it was, it was worth it!

FTFY.

Seriously, though, given the fan base and following, I think it's a slam dunk.

The characters are all older now so I don't think the original cast would work, but you keep a key few and start anew, keep Joss at the helm, and I guarantee that they can make it work again.

Hell, I'd settle for an animated series with the original actors as the voice talent. That's really about the only way you could make the series continue on from where the movie left off.

This is all coming from a guy who named both his children and both his cars after the series.

Having not seen it and no way to see it without paying, it's worth $10 to me Grin

(But NOT signing up for Comic-Con HQ, even if it is only $5/mo, I need another subscription like I need another warning point)

Can't remember how much it was but it was too rich for my blood, I passed on the startup.

I'm going to guess that one is Serenity. Maybe the other one is Brutus?
