I am seeing the AC5400 priced at $282.85 before the $40 discount.

My mistake. There are two different discounts. The $40 that is on the product page with a box you need to check and the 20% discount using the code you gave us - TWITCHCON20.

I've never owned a mechanical keyboard and am looking at the Corsair K65. Would anyone recommend it to a heavy typer? (Live alone if that helps)

Well for starters this is the compact one, so no num pad if that is at all important to you and leverage the num pad frequently. Also these are cherry MX reds, its all a matter of preference for typers what feels good many typist prefer browns, but this something that you have to try out and see what feels right to you.

Aside from that yes this would be nice to type on generally...

I have cherry mx blues so you should be good. It may take some time, like a couple weeks, or so f typing to break in the keys.

For typing cherry mx blues all day! Honestly tho for gaming I prefer my Logitech g510s gaming membrane keyboard.
