Here are the basics of the card:

For Reference: https://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/bank...irect=true

Card earns at the following rates:
- 2.5% cash back on all purchases if you have a $1,000 monthly direct deposit into your
USAA checking account
- 1.5% cash back on all purchases if you don't receive the monthly direct deposit
- No annual fee
- No sign up bonus
- Chip & PIN
- No foreign transaction fees
- You must be a USAA member to apply for the card

It seems to be to be YMMV. If you're currently a USAA member, make sure that you log into their mobile app and see if you were targeted. USAA plans to launch this card nationwide by the end of 2017. Both my coworker and I had no trouble finding the offer on our USAA homepage.

Eligiblity:

USAA Membership

You're eligible if you fit in these categories:

- Active, retired and honorably separated officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S.
military.
- Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
- Adult children whose eligible parents have or had a USAA auto or property insurance
product.
- Widows and widowers of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property
insurance policy.
If you take advantage of an offer on our site, Slickdeals may receive a commission.

Are you referring to the regular/traditional Chase Freedom or the newer Freedom Unlimited? The freedom unlimited is only 1.5% cash back; this USAA card is a full 1% more, which may not sound like a lot, but if you spend $2500/mo on the card, that's $30k/yr, which comes out to an extra $300 cash back every year.

For comparison, the best unlimited cash back on all purchases cards are the Citi Double Cash and Fidelity Rewards, which both offer 2% cash back. At 0.5% more, this card is still a better deal - for those who can get it.

This all said, this deal still pales in comparison to the signup bonuses you can continuously earn by continuously signing up for new credit cards. This is a game many love to play, but it takes effort to keep track of everything and keep on top of the best deals and which cards to apply for. The credit card companies are also constantly trying to fight back against people who do this (ie the Chase 5/24 rule: http://www.doctorofcredit.com/cha...need-know/ ) so all this must be factored into any decision regarding what credit card(s) to apply for and use.

Bottom line: this is a great card if you can get it. Thanks Op!

Does USAA ever offer open enrollment to non-military applicants? I'm referring to their banking/credit card products and not insurance.

Sorry to hear. I must have gotten lucky as I was browsing my home page and saw an ad banner on the right side with the card. If I can find the direct link again I will post it.

I didnt have an ad banner but was able to locate the offer in the USAA android app. Its under Products>>Banking>>Credit cards. Click "All Cards" and I was able to see "Visa limitless cashback credit card - Exclusive Online-only Pilot" as the first option.

I don't see the option either, but if I recall correctly it was rolling out to a limited set of states in October and the greater country later in the year.

To be fair- for those who travel the Freedom Unlimited isn't 1.5% CB- it's 1.5x UR... which is worth more like 2.25-3% cash back on the low end, and 6-7% cash back on the high end for premium airfares.

The regular freedom is even better than that of course

Do they offer 90 day purchase protection? Do they double warranties?
How is customer service?

2.5% is definitely enticing, but Amex has done so much for me in these other categories, it would be very hard for me to switch. Plus there is the whole switching them to your main account. That is huge and definitely should be in title.

Wouldn't that completely undermine what USAA stands for... USAA Banking - NOT Credit Cards - is the only thing open to regular civilians.
