People taking peelies (coupons) off items in the store

486 September 25, 2008 at 05:01 PM in Chat (4)
Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

Have you ever partaken in a "wrongfully priced item" that went up as a Hot Deal here, and gotten in on it, causing the Company that put up the error, to lose money Whistling If so, seems like a profit to me Stick Out Tongue
I got no problem with profit... look back... I originally responded to someone who said it was fine to take peelies as long as you didn't profit nod

I vote it's wrong.

Those who do take them and make up reasons why it's ok are just rationlizing something they know to be wrong but want to do anyway and not have aguilty concience. Like those who sneak into concerts and movies (because they didn't actually take anything from mthe performers) or download movies "they wouldn't pay to watch so no one is loosing anything".

It's an honor thing. It's obviuos what the idea is from the company giving away the peelies and they are just trusting you to not do the wrong thing even if no one will catch you.

Sample trays at the store: Sure you can just empty the whole tray into your purse/bag. If they really didn't want you to take all of them they would post a guart at the sample tray. But you know you shouldn't.

All the rationlizations have holes:

They should have put it on the inside if they don't want you to take it - Can you imagine if everything you own but wasn't nailed down got taken and someone said "you shoulda locked it in a safe if you didn't want it stolen". Or if someone poured paint on you and said "If you didn't want your clothes soiled you should have worn a poncho"?

If I take the peelies now but then buy the product next month on sale the company gets what they wanted in the end right? Not really... the company wanted to give you a discount off their product... either the peelie or the sale... not both at once.

With all the greedy people out there litterally risking (or costing) peoples lives out of greed it's all the more sad to see that we can't trust people to not take advantage of simple little things like this. It's like when you won't be home to hand out candy on halloween and so leave a bucket of candy so everyone can take some and your neighbor says the first kid just emptied the whole thing into his bag.

At least those are usually kids though... adults though... just kind of pathetic Frown

People who steal to survive in third world countries... who have to steal a loaf of bread or something, I sympathize with them. Those who have made a life of crime stealing cars or jewlery, well that's a life choice, but if you are going to give up your morales, at least you did it for something big.

But to give up your morales for a coupon? Ouch...
This made me lol.

Wait... don't tempt people. It's very possible some in here will find a way to justify this.

I'd say it's theft. The coupon is basically free if you buy that item, not free for the taking. That would be like taking any other "free with purchase" item without buying said item.

There's nothing more annoying than going to buy an item and finding someone stole all the coupons off of them already. Mad
