People taking peelies (coupons) off items in the store

486 September 25, 2008 at 05:01 PM in Chat (4)
Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

Wow. I'm usually the one on the defensive when people accuse somebody on SD of doing something they don't agree with, but some on. Apparently some of the people around here are suffering from a much larger lack of ethics than I expected.

Stealing peelies? Come on, people. You're not ripping off the store, or some faceless corporate entity - you're ripping off your fellow consumers. What in the world would make you think that taking the coupon off a product you're not purchasing is ok? And don't give me the "if they didn't want me to, they'd put it inside" argument. Most peelies that I've seen are on things like bottles of ketchup. Do you really think they're gonna put the coupon inside?
Your righteous indignation is causing you to froth at the mouth. Need a tissue?

I take peelies off and use them on the product . . . it may not be that day, but 90% of the time I use it immediately.

I don't bother putting them on product anymore, I just keep the whole roll to myself.

A pad of coupons isn't a peelie. Peelies are the individual coupons found attached to products in the store.

Secret unless you're a disgruntled former employee

The tearpads are attached to the shelf in front of the product. What's the difference? They are both meant to be used on the product.

So is it ok to take a bottle of milk from the store if the sell by date is today and it's 5 minutes before closing?

What if the Ponds is charged for every one that is redeemed? So Ponds says "Let's offer this promotion and for every one that is redeemed we will have to pay $1 but that's ok becauuse we will sell a $10 product."

Would that make you feel different about it?

And do you know for a fact that this isn't how it works?

I personally know if I saw a coupon missing from an item I might not buy it just becauase I would feel like I was missing out or getting ripped off... so if they are all missing and you cost the company a sale, is that stealing?
Good point.

Probably why the free movie ticket coupons were not on a tearpad...people would have just taken the whole thing. The peelies were put on the products to entice people to buy the product. For all we know, Pond's paid the sponsor a fee for each free ticket. The company figured it would make up for it with each product sold.

The joke is on them, lol.

The Pond's peelie thing was a promotion with Momma Mia. No doubt Universal Pictures is picking up the tab on this or at least splitting the difference with Ponds. Each one of those Peelies is attached to a $12 prepaid Mastercard #, so they've already expensed it.

The ONLY problem I have with people taking peelies are the people who take entire pads or entire shelves of peelies without giving a few others the opportunity to get some as well. I live in an area where people think nothing of taking entire shelves of peelies, leaving nothing but the goo behind. I just can't do that. I have more than enough Ponds peelies and never took more than half at any given store. (As I break my arm patting myself on the back! LOL! laugh out loud )

Let me re-word it then. Tearpads are placed on the shelf in front of the products they correspond with. Peelies are placed on the products they correspond with. What's the difference? Whether you take a tearpad, or take a peelie, you are still taking something intended for a product. Had the company thought it through they probably should have used the tearpad system in the form of a mail in offer for a free movie ticket, with proof of purchase.
