People taking peelies (coupons) off items in the store

486 September 25, 2008 at 05:01 PM in Chat (4)
Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

i don't want to come across wrong, i'm just trying to get more information before i can make a decision on where i stand on the ethical value. on a 1 or 2 stance, its harmless enough.
I think we have all done worse in our lives and will probably do so on a fairly regular basis... as far as I am concerned the important part is being honest with yourself about it.

From my experience the slope gets slippery fast and those who get too used to rationlizing end up sliding down it pretty fast. While that doesn't sound too bad just remember every time there is a stupid return policy or security check, it's probably a result of enough people getting a little too liberal with their rationlizing.

i'm just trying to see both sides of the story. to me, anything that prevents even 1 person from getting the intended promo, just seems wrong. but if managers of grocery stores don't care who am i to care? Dontknow
Is that all that counts? I generally answer to me, not to the grocery store manager. So I guess my answer to your question is, at the end of the day, the person who judges me is me...

You must be kidding...another prove yourself right thread? And does it matter if someone takes the peelies, unless of course you are the peelie police.

Wow. I'm usually the one on the defensive when people accuse somebody on SD of doing something they don't agree with, but some on. Apparently some of the people around here are suffering from a much larger lack of ethics than I expected.

Stealing peelies? Come on, people. You're not ripping off the store, or some faceless corporate entity - you're ripping off your fellow consumers. What in the world would make you think that taking the coupon off a product you're not purchasing is ok? And don't give me the "if they didn't want me to, they'd put it inside" argument. Most peelies that I've seen are on things like bottles of ketchup. Do you really think they're gonna put the coupon inside?

They put coupons inside stuff all the time. My hotpockets had coupons inside and so does my cereal.

Methinks it's time for everyone's favorite SD thread game...

It's time to play SPOT THE ASSHAT!!!

Is it:

A) someone who takes a few peelies from a product (what the OP so gently calls a "peelie thief"....

OR

B) the type of person that would call "the authorities" to complain about an elderly gentleman feeding birds...
HUH? who called the cops on a bid feeder Confused Did I read that right????

Ranting damn fine print! I hate those teeny tiny letters.
