Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

If I get what you are saying, you think Ponds just handed over a few million to Mastercard and said "BTW if any of those aren't claimed by the expiry date, that's cool just keep the balance"?
I don't think you have to think too hard about that one to see it's not very likely.
There are only two reasonable ways I can think that happened:
Ponds paid a few million to Mastercard and said "Come XXX date we want any unused balance back and cancel the remaining outstanding cards".
Ponds says "Mastercard bill us for each of those that gets activiated/used.
Either way, you are not taking money that would other wise just be tossed into the garbage or magically dissapear. You and I may have to fork over cash to get a prepaid mastercard, it would be foolish to think any businness would run a promotion where they a had to do the same and have no recourse for the unused portion...
I have to wonder if people who rationlize their way through stuff like this take it well when someone hands a blatently weak rationalization to them?
If someone stole your wallet, you caught them and they said "Hey someone was going to steal that sooner or later, might as well be me" would you just say "oh ok, yeah good point" and let them go?
If you caught someone breaking into your car and they said "If you didn't expect me to do this you wouldn't have got insurance so I am just doing what you wanted" would you just go back to sleep?
If someone broke the windows on your house and said "If you didn't want people breaking your windows, you should have put metal grates over them" would you just go to Home Depot and buy some grates?
