People taking peelies (coupons) off items in the store

Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

wow, in a thread full of childish idiots, it's not easy to stand out as a fool; but you've done it.
I'm just saying that it isn't a crime to take a peelie, they are basically the same thing as a wine tag. And many wine tags state "Alcohol purchase not required" so unless the manufactures are playing a cruel twisted prank on you to get you to steal by making it seem like you are not. Then it is fine to take winetags, and in my opinion Peelies.

And at this point I will refrain from saying "I'm rubber, you're glue, what ever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you." About your previous statement.

Enough with the peelie stealing debates!

If you think its ok, do it
If you think its wrong, don't do it.
Just don't argue about it here

Thank you
When the thread is clogged with bickering it gets so unproductive and then sometimes the thread gets locked, mod alerts left and right, posts get deleted. Everybody do what they want to. period. Let's move on to the deals, please!

That's a very odd notion of the concept of stealing. Q's belong to the mfgr, not the retailer, and are meant for consumers to redeem on the product indicated. That fact that a particular lot of product X has peelies on them prior to shipping and ended up at T instead of Wags is irrelevant to our present context.
Except that some peelies are placed after the item is in the store, and certain peelies are targeted to appear in certain stores at certain times, much like blinkies and tearpads.

That said ... the "stealing peelies" topic arises regularly in various threads. It's now landed here. Trust me: it's like discussing gun control: Side X feels one way and side Y feels the other way, and never the twain shall meet. Can we please take such discussion to the lounge or the BS thread. Or better still, just drop it altogether.

No matter which side you're on (oh wait, using the logic from a previous poster -- do I get to be absolutely right too because I've long passed the bar exam?*), stealing ALL of the peelies on all of the products on the shelf is not nice.

Oh wait -- notice how we always call it "stealing" or "taking"... so it IS purloined peelies... justifying it is just sociopathic**.. of which there's a societal epidemic...

It reminds me of the story of an wretched old man with snaggly teeth, little hair, and wrinkles that would put a sharpei to shame. He propositioned a beautiful young thing at a party.. told her if she'd consent to spend the night with him (all frills included) he would write her a check for a cool million in the morning. She thought he was BSing... but his lawyer and doctor both were present at the party and verified that he easily had the money and would pay if an agreement were reached.

So, Miss Voluptuous, agreed to spend the night with him. As soon as she agreed he countered with.. well.. would you do it for $100? She turned red, got angry and shrieked "what do you think I am? A prostitute?". The old man replied "We've already established what you are.. now we're negotiating price".

So 1/100th of a cent or $100.. what difference does it make? None to the definition of larceny or theft.

I agree, taking some others property without their (store/mfg) permission is stealing. Those who want to "justify" it are kidding themselves. If they want the peelie and don't want to steal - ask the store manager for it (yea, that would ever happen). Otherwise, admit your stealing it! By the way, taking a loose coupon (blinkie, pamphlet, etc) are intended for you to take with you (in reasonable quantities) and that would not be stealing, the peelie is intended to be used in conjunction with that items purchase.

P.S. I have stolen peelies in my life, my original point was that I acknowledged it to myself that I stole - not that it was my right.

bottom line:

if you don't think that taking peelies are theft -- take em ... I certainly do.

if you do think that taking peelies are theft -- don't take them.

I take them AND use them at other stores, so what ...big deal as long as I'm saving on my grocery bill that's all that matters.

I take the ones stuck on products and stick them on my head and walk around the store with them. I find it entertaining.

this is ridiculous

the only thing you can do with a peelie is buy the product..you're going to buy the product either way

if the peelie is a MANUFACTURER'S COUPON then you are free to use it ANYWHERE

not all the items on the shelf will have the peelies, some will have them, some won', even if the shipment is fresh.

so i don't know how it is stealing to take a peelie to buy a product, the peelie is there because they want you to buy the product

unless you're suggesting the peelie is a gift with purchase of the product

but in that case, the peelie would have to be inside the packaging or require register activation

so if you say this

i took a peelie from a bottle of shampoo

then i went to a store and bought the shampoo with the peelie

how is that wrong?

if you're THAT hard up about this then

buy the product at the store

take the peelie off outside the store

go return the product

yep, you waste time, you waste manpower, you waste paper, you waste electricity, but OMG YOU'RE NOT STEALING

I swear, the very nature of slickdeals is deceptive, and yet there's some people on here who seriously want to be all OH LOOK AT ME I'M SO FULL OF INTEGRITY AND DECENCY AND HONESTY..!

i don't understand how anyone can be a true slickdealer and always play by the "rules".

You're going to have to buy the product somewhere anyways, and its a manufacture coupon.
Its not stealing because they want you to buy it anyways, not like you can trade them in for crack.
I bought some shampoo.
Some people on SD are all like "Look at me, I'm honest and blah blah"

That about sums it up, I think..Dontknow
