Plano's junior varsity today will attempt to ride its third straight game at John Clark Stadium into consecutive wins for the second time this season.
Plano (4-2, 1-1 in District 8-5A) meets Plano West at 5:30 p.m. along a stretch of four straight games at Clark Stadium.
The junior varsity schedule has been plagued by poor weather this season. Each of the past five games have been played in inclement conditions and today's forecast includes a 70 to 90 percent chance of rain.
It is unclear what role Sam Morrell will play. He got his first start at quarterback last week, and also plays on defense and special teams. In his first start at quarterback, Morrell had 221 total yards to go along with two rushing scores and a touchdown pass.
Plano features three capable backs. L.J. Ausama and Jared Janacek are the starters at halfback. Tamuka Simango is the primary backup. Ausama and Janacek have combined for 443 yards rushing and five touchdowns this season. Simango adds another 113 yards rushing.
The passing game has proven to be very versatile with a variety of capable receivers. Hunter Gore and Branden Nguyen are tied for the team lead with 14 receptions each. Gore leads all receivers with 215 yards and Nguyen leads with three touchdown receptions. Bo Hawthorne has 12 receptions for 136 yards, both ranking third on the team. Kobie Douglas is the other primary receiver, while Ausama and Janacek have each caught passes out of the backfield.
The offense is averaging 240 yards per game and 5.4 yards per play. On defense, Plano has recovered eight fumbles and has three interceptions for 11 takeaways in six games.
Though he has been utilized half as much as the opponent's punter, Chris Moore has proven to be a valuable weapon. He had an 81-yard punt last week that resulted in a safety and is averaging 39.7 yards per punt.
