This is true. I'm not a huge "smilie" guy and I've had to explain many a sarcastic post in my life. Come to think of it, there should be smilies you could use in real life since I've had to explain far more verbal sarcasm than written.

You didn't insult anyone, arj was just saying that smilies do impact how people read things. As an example, he was saying that using smilies with an insult can be done to make people read them as a joke rather than serious.
