Dang, I turned away from the screen for a minute.

I know you were. Which is why I was over the top with my answer.

However, I love these debates, so:

For a starter like a Derek Jeter, it's the practices before the games, practices on your days off, games sometimes 6 or 7 days a week, TRAVEL every 3 days or so to different cites and different time zones.

Then in the game it's not stress free sitting around, even when your on the bench, and in the field (so half the game) you go from super tense to relaxed to super tense every pitch.


Football is harder on the body in the short term, sure, due to the contact and running, but you could argue that with a definitive offense and defense, those guys sit on a bench for half the game as well. Plus (and this is a legit question, I don't know) how many players are actually in the game for every play?

Add to that that they get to practice in their home towns and only travel once a week (well twice... i guess you have to get back) it's not that taxing on the overall person.

But still, I reiterate, the cross country runner has the hardes schedule of any of them and blows them all away as far as work, taxation, travel, etc and all for fraction of the money. So

IMO, the travel really doens't come into play that much. I mean, lot's of people travel in their chosen professions. Hell, truck drivers, salespersons, etcetera travel more than sports professionals. Sure, it's inconvenient for them, but it has little bearing on the "athletic" question.

As for football, most players don't play every down and even just on offense or defense, players shuttle in and out. This is for "position" players mostly, the "grunts" are in for every offensive or defensive play.

But, compare that to baseball. 9 people take the field on defense and might actually have to do something that half inning. Then, they go sit in the dugout and stand a good chance of not batting during that half inning.

Hell, cut to the chase. I played football, basketball, soccer and baseball when I was growing up. Mostly in "peewee" type leagues and I got away from them all before highschool.

Football games were always the most physically demanding. I played center on offense and nose tackle on defense. I mean, you were flat out tired and in pain at the end of the game.

Soccer or basketball would have to come next. Not as physically taxing as football from the "contact" perspective, but a lot more running around all over the field or court. I wouldn't be in pain after a game/match but I would be tired.

Baseball ? Please. I could finish playing in a baseball game and then turn right around and suit up for football, basketball or soccer game/match with no problem.

Baseball just isnt' that taxing or demanding in my opinion.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.Don't go bringing personal experience into it because I've never played either sport in a for real/ team sort of way so you'll actually have insight and that's just not fair. I'd prefer if we could just keep going where I make shit up and you defend your argument.
