Thanks, castian! This is actually a pretty timely reminder, seeing that the coupon code expires on 12/4.
I swear I never find a post when I look, then the second I post it. It magically appears. Sorry for the repost.

If you spend the $200 to pay bills or at any other place that takes AmEx, you get 5% out of this.
yes, but most slickdealers have a 2% CB card (such as citi double cash), so you would lose that instead....net profit is only 3%

Nevermind: Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.

Buying gift cards usually should work for hitting the spending for bonuses.

so I pay $190 to get illiquid $200.. the only way to get money out is a 2.75% fee /// so I make like $4.50 per $200? seems like a shit deal.
You can, ya know, buy literally anything with it.

These cards are weird, there is no balance in it (online account show 0 balance), yet phone system telling me there was $200. You have to "activate" the balance by swiping in store.
I tried to use online and it got denied, so I called AMEX # on the back of the card, that was how I know. They have no way to activate it other than swiping in store. Even the manager told me so.

I think when you buy the Amex GC you also get 1% CB or points on the Amex you use to pay for the GC. Having said that, it's not worth it for me because I really dislike not having a record of my expenses on bank statements and in Mint when I need to go back to check my bill payments or purchases.

This had been posted previously with a different coupon code. I give this deal a thumbs-up. Easy free money as long as you have the offer in your Amex account.

Where was your card bought? I've heard of store-purchased cards needing to be activated at POS, but cards purchased online shouldn't have this particular activation requirement, especially when this odd requirement (relative to VISA, MC) isn't disclosed online.

There is a new code valid through 12/31: ACB16

Also, if you don't see the "$10 back for $200 AMEX gift card" offer or it has disappeared before you can claim it (happened to me), try install the AMEX mobile app, and the offer may be still be available through the app.

I went to local grocery store today, asked a manager if I could do what AMEX rep. told me and swiped one card, the machine get stuck in processing once swiped, he had to enter his id to get it unstuck then suddenly the screen showed the amount supposed to be in this card. I have a total of 8 cards, did not want to get the machine stuck again and went home. Just checked 2 of the un-swiped cards on line and they all have the right amount loaded. It has nothing to do with the swipe, simply because the incompetent rep. gave me the wrong info. I called too soon might be the problem. These cards take time to be active (like overnight)

Amex is pathetic. Before their rule was as long as you added the offer to the account, it would be there before the expiry date no matter how many people used the offer. Now, they can take it away any time once there are too many people use the offer. I put this offer on at least 2 of my Amex cards, just went and wanted to use it, but ALL disappeared. They are so lame!
