All you folks who hang out in the Target coupon thread, start hanging out here instead! When you've got something relevant to post about Target coupons, please post about it in the Target coupon thread! They are riders on my policy. Usually, kids shouldn't have a policy, b/c they have neither income nor debt. Life insurance is need to take care of your debts in the event that your family loses an income earner.

I tell my DH that - He is worth more DEAD than alive. Evil (of course, he's not laughing.)

We got this gerber policy for DS last year. We calculated that what we put into it, he can get out and use for college expenses. Was going to cancel to save $ but now I'm wondering if I should keep it with the diabetes so he can have guaranteed insurance for life. Trang?

My sis and in laws are staying put in Houston. After they fled to my place in dallas from Rita, it took 24 hours to get to dallas.. normally takes 4 hours.. they don't want to go thru that frenzy. She says it's only a catergory 2 unlike category 5 when Rita passed. Most stores are closed or wiped out. She stocked up on Muir glen soups. I didn 't even know they had such thing. It was $2.xx.

Borrowing from a life insurance policy for school expenses is not as beneficial as how they advertised. There are fees and payback cost when you borrow out. That is not the purpose of a life policy, but many will try to sell it that way.

Gerberr's policy is around $10K, right? My point, kids shouldn't have a life policy. Reason: kids don't need life insurance. Of course, I would never tell you to cancel - that is up to you and your DH to make that important decision.

To cut monthly expense, maybe you can cut corners elsewhere. Eat out less, not using too much gas for unneccesary trips, cut cable (I don't think you have that), go shopping less... a little bit here and there will add up.

Only thing you're missing with life insurance - it helps pay for costs associated with the death of a person. Young or old, a death means funeral costs... which can be very costly Frown

That's the thing, we are the leanest we can be. We NEVER eat out, go shopping with GC and don't have cable. Gas is hard but I don't even go out as much as I used to, narrowed it down to 2x a week. Not much to cut.

I agree, but that is not the purpose of getting a life insurance.

For someone with kids in college, mortgage and car loans, it's best to get a term life insurance. This term policy can be the sole policy or as an additiional policy to your current UL.

Why term? Cheaper and it takes care of this critical period of debts if you die.

There is a new "Returnable of Premium" Term, where you will get back all of your premiums paid at the end of your term period. Cost more than the tradiitional term, but you get your $$$ back. Consider that as a saving account...

Doublesided, 3 years ago DH decided to switch our landline from AT&T to a voip service... from paying around 40+, we were down now to 15 a month. We pull the plugs from outlets for appliances like coffee maker, radios, etc. that we don't use too much to save on electricity. Like you guys, we never eat out. I still remember when we get invited to parties, gifts are problems since thats extra expense for us. So glad, now I found SD and can get gifts cheaper Smilie

The most important thing DH did was be aggressive on paying his credit cards. He really wanted to pay most of them as they have very high interests and costs us a lot of money. It took us years to do this but we eventually did. We are now down to just one credit card we use for emergency expenses.
