The intent of this thread is for users, both new and not-so-new, to ask questions, and help with tips/advice. This is not by any means the "gospel". Please feel free to add your words of wisdom, and if you have questions, just ask! If you have a tip that will make sweeping easier for folks, please feel free to share. This is a community effort. We all will benefit in some way.

The Basic Advice/Tips for the new-to-sweeping folks.
Enter for the items you want/need. If you have no interest in trips, avoid the sweeps where the only prize is a trip. If you know you can't afford the tax on a new vehicle, avoid entering for those.

Set up folders in your bookmark/favorites. Create a separate one for each month, and file any sweeps you are interested in into the folder corresponding with when it ends. Then, if you have a day where you're pressed for time, enter at least the ones ending that day.

Play the instant win games.

Follow the rules! If a sweep is restricted to only females, a certain age group, certain states, etc, make sure you fit the criteria! If you don't, move on to another sweep that you do qualify for. Do not create a bunch of email addresses so you can enter something more than once, or so you can play an Instant win game more. The Sponsors can tell, and will DQ you. You're better off playing by the rules than cheating and getting disqualified and having NO entries.

Don't immediately dismiss essay required sweeps (or recipes, photos, etc)....well, unless you know you don't want to write something. A lot of people pass on them, so you might have a better shot at winning something.

Don't expect this to be lucrative enough to become a job. Yes, a lot of us win, and often, but not nearly enough to quit a job!

Expect things to go slow at first. It takes a while for the wins to roll in. But once they do...look out!

Expect to occasionally hit a dry spell. It happens to ALL of us.

DEFINITELY USE YOUR REAL INFO! If you use a fake phone number, and a sponsor is calling to notify people of wins, you'll never know what you missed out on. I, and many others, have been doing this for a long time, and we have no problems with sales calls. Also, use your real name. If your name is Robert or Catherine, using Bob or Cathy is ok, as they are known acceptable shorter versions of that name. if your name is Matilda, and you go by Fluffy, don't use Fluffy. Looking at your ID to get an affy notarized, they may reject it because the names don't match. The sponsor may also say "Fluffy won, not Matilda". So stick with using your real name, or something close to it.

Most of all, HAVE FUN! And don't be afraid to ask questions. We were all new to this at one time. Any one of us would be happy to answer questions.

For easy form filling, check out Roboform [roboform.com]. Google Tool bar and the autofill feature on IE also work well.

For Mac users, the best form filler is 1Password: http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password (thanks javaFlower!)

FireFox Form Filler browser extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/...ll&cat=all

To set up the autofill feature in IE: Click on Tools, then internet options, then choose 'content'. When that pops up, click on "Autocomplete", and make sure to check the boxes for forms and passwords on forms. This is not a good idea if you are on a shared/public computer!

How do you guys deal with the "spam" overload on your sweep email account? Ok, not necessarily spam since we agree to sign up for most of it in the process of entering lol.

My main sweeps email account now gets 100-300 or more emails a day now and it really makes it hard to go through and check for any possible winner emails.

I began using another email address to help alleviate that but the same thing is already happening.

Do you guys go through and "unsubscribe" from all the companies once the sweep is over?

Also was curious how many of you guys set up filters to help catch and highlight winner notifications and if so what keywords and such you use to do yours. I had one specifically set up for eprize but when trying to do a general filter for "congratulations" or "you are a winner" I still get way too many "spam" emails that happen to use those terms.

I just worry that with all the junk I have in my inbox daily I am possibly missing emails I need to respond to to get a win.

Thanks for any insight Wink

I have account on that new outlook.com - i mark everything as spam other than if the content has above mention by you wording - then it gets filtered to my inbox
new outlook allows you to have two inboxes also for aliases - it just all comes to one place ( inbox with your alias) - then you can have your real email the same place - so you can set up on the phone and monitor it through the day just by switching folders ( if you have smart phone ) - hope it helps you at least a little Smilie

Ok, I got this about two weeks ago:

We're happy to let you know that you're a winner in Macy's Scan for a Grand! Due to a technical issue, not all of the prizes were awarded so we conducted a second chance drawing. As a result, you have won a $100 Macy's E-Gift Card.

Before we send you your E-Gift Card, we need to collect you home address in order to comply with promotional laws which require a physical address for any prizes greater than $25. Please visit the web site below and respond within 10 days with an updated physical address. If you do not respond within 10 days, you will forfeit your prize.

I filled out the address the same day and I haven't heard anything. Should I try to contact them or just wait?
I would try to contact them, since their 10 day deadline for your response has passed.
"Wanted to confirm receipt of my address blah blah" Good Luck!

Anyone win anything like this? I don't recall entering for this and was wondering if anyone else got a similar email yesterday? It looks legit and doesn't require me to click a link or give any information. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Email goes as follows....

----------------------------------------------------

Congratulations!

Kettle Brand® has randomly selected you as 1 of 5,000

Here's a nice stupid question for any tablet owners...can you enter contests using an iPad or Kindle Fire? I am thinking of getting one or the other (unless I win one, ha!) and I wanted to know if you can do sweeps on them. Thanks!

Yes, you can use a tablet to enter sweeps, however, some tablets (like the iPads) don't have Flash, so some IWGs can't be played using one.

LOL! Yeah, guess I would know about tablets & sweeping.

Welcome back! Sending you lots of WIN BIG wishes!

p.s. If you get a tablet, like an iPad, might want to look into getting a keyboard/case (like a ZAGGfolio) if you're used to a traditional keyboard as opposed to a touch screen keyboard. Oh, and a cheap stylus sure helps too - screen doesn't get all goobered up with fingerprints. Stick Out Tongue

I have owned 3 Tablets--Samsung Q1, Xoom, and IPAD3, They all suffer from one critical problem, they are not good for data entry. They don't have a keyboard, unless you buy one. The screen is way to small for entering data for long periods. A third problem occurs for tablets, they are not wired to internet generally speaking. Wifi isn't ideal for contest entering. If you tether them to a connection they lose portability.

Looking at the IPAD specifically, it can't use a lot of programs other tablets can. Itunes is a trap that apple sets to only sell their own software. I really would lose a lot more time with roboform.

IMO, you would be much better off getting a laptop. For the price of $500-700 (what a newer model IPAD runs) you can get a nice Dell with decent memory, processing, bigger screen, and full keyboard built in. Probably will have its on DVD drive. Guess what shop slickdeals hot deals for specs and you will even fidnd a deal on one.

I find I generally sweep 4-5 hours a day. I generally do 500-600 contests. This also includes cleaning out junk mail and checking up on wins that for whatever reason need checking up on.

Thanks Implode...I probably will lean towards a laptop. My old laptop is ancient, and I moved my desktop out of the living room. So I need something where I can enter during tv commercials when I'm just lounging around, and of course I need it to be roboform compatible. Smilie Thanks!

Yeah spacing out watching TV is the way to go on sweeping. I do that a lot. I can do both at the same time fairly easily.
