I can't believe this just hit FP as I just had the worst experience ever with this item and HF. I purchased this same refurbed unit in October for $639.99, it arrived with dents in the tank and the electrical cord near the switch was severed and repaired with electrical tape. I emailed Product Support and after a month they had the shipping company pick it up and they sent another refurbed unit. This time it was missing parts and the oil inside was milky brown like it was left out in the rain and of course there was no top cap where you put the oil in. This unit also had some deep scratches on the tank so I emailed Product Support and asked for a third and they said they were clean out of stock and that they would give me a full credit including the freight delivery. This was literally 3 weeks ago at this point and I just received the credit yesterday after almost 4 months. Now they are selling this for $159 when they literally couldn't supply a replacement to me 3 weeks ago? Someone is either getting the two units I returned or a ton of people had the same experience I did.

You've been warned.

I have the impression that's exactly what's going on... thinking this is a price mistake is very optimistic, b/c no way does HF put a decent one at this price intentionally. The "compare at $449" does throw me off like maybe it is a PM b/c on what planet does this type of compressor even cost $449? Pretty risky but if I needed a compressor and thought I could get my money back (even if it takes 4 months) I would probably roll the dice. Did they refund shipping?

They did refund shipping but their communication was horrible, I had to keep threatening with BBB complaints to get a response each time. I finally supplied pictures and all of a sudden I had a guy from the corporate office call me every day for a few days apologizing for everything and kissing my butt. I have a feeling they don't normally do this kind of thing but I'm just happy it's over. When I asked how they could have two units in such bad shape and use the phrase "factory perfect" on their site the guy said that HF doesn't refurb anything in CA, that some 3rd party does it in South Carolina.

If anyone decides to pull the trigger on this, I still have the pics and would love to check serial numbers. I'm curious if they would even wipe off the brown oil that the second unit was covered in when it arrived.

For the curious, it has been this cheap before as a refurb.

And also, spare parts are readily available. The motor may be different, and the pressure switch also, but the head is almost certainly the same as found on many Bel Aire units.

Interesting - I live in SC so now I'm curious of these are available locally, especially where I could check it out first.

This unit in not Chinese and it's not typical HF garbage.

The compressor is made in the USA by Bel Air (same as 216V). The 216V sells for $1000+ and gets 4.5 stars.

The pump is made in Europe (B4900), the motor in Mexico and the tanks In the USA.

This is a killer deal if it get's fullfilled. HF did obsolete this model with an inferior unit from China. Maybe that's why they want to clear them out as refurbs.

I'm in but I'm sure it'll be cancelled.

Yeah I'm in GA and when the freight company came to pick up the unit the 2nd time I asked where it was going and he said just a few hours over to SC so it matches up with what the guy from corporate said. I have no idea what the other company is, I just know it's not HF.

with? I wired in one of these last year. it's pretty straight forward
was referring to how "easy" it may be depending on open breaker slots, if the garage is detached, if they have a sub pannel, ect... Also people may have shotty existing wiring

and the 40 amp breaker rating is for ac motor startup current.

also if your more than 10ft from sub pannel to compressor code says you cannot direct wire and need an outlet/plug

does not hurt to go with the recommended 40amps (beside it does seem oversized) except the pocket. copper wires is pricey. best to run a dedicated line from your panel. I am in Chicago so I am used to emt. the power in your panel can kill so be careful. there are two "legs/lines" and a neutral in there. each leg to neutral gives 110to 120. leg to leg is 220 to 240. shutting your main does not kill the power inside your panel.
for sure. I would never dream of installing a breaker without turning off the main breaker. Just to be safe I always take a multimeter and check to make sure there is no power. better to take an extra minute and be safe

I am curious about the shipping. I live in a residential area, and I do not want a lift fee tacked on. When do I find out if that is added?

The local freight company will call you to schedule delivery and they will tell you then if there's a fee. The company I dealt with did not charge anything. The guy had a pallet jack and took it right in to the garage and I tipped him $10 since I have a long driveway that's pretty steep when you're pushing a 250 lb tank uphill. When I ordered, it took weeks before I got any order updates or heard from anybody so don't panic, that's just typical Harbor Freight for ya.

I bought this one from HF back in 2014 and it's still going strong. http://www.harborfreight.com/29-g...61489.html

29 gal 2 hp 150 psi 120V 13amp rating. I honestly think it's the best option out there for a light/medium duty household compressor that will last. Highly rated.

I have the 29 gallon HF compressor which I bought new and it is working great. I've had it for over a year now and it is a beast. I would not take a chance with a refurb unit unless you can get a 2 year warranty with it. Also this thing is very heavy and will need 2-3 people to get it on a truck and put it where you need it to.
