I can't believe this just hit FP as I just had the worst experience ever with this item and HF. I purchased this same refurbed unit in October for $639.99, it arrived with dents in the tank and the electrical cord near the switch was severed and repaired with electrical tape. I emailed Product Support and after a month they had the shipping company pick it up and they sent another refurbed unit. This time it was missing parts and the oil inside was milky brown like it was left out in the rain and of course there was no top cap where you put the oil in. This unit also had some deep scratches on the tank so I emailed Product Support and asked for a third and they said they were clean out of stock and that they would give me a full credit including the freight delivery. This was literally 3 weeks ago at this point and I just received the credit yesterday after almost 4 months. Now they are selling this for $159 when they literally couldn't supply a replacement to me 3 weeks ago? Someone is either getting the two units I returned or a ton of people had the same experience I did.

You've been warned.

I bought the single stage version of this about a decade ago. It sat in my garage uninstalled and unused until about a month ago. Fired it up, runs like a sewing machine. Did a search, and the single stage was made by another company back then and uses all domestic parts in it (just as somebody else has stated in this thread that this one does.) IF this ships, this would be the deal of the century for people out there looking for one. I am VERY tempted to place an order, but my shop is at near max power draw as it is. Besides that, a dual stage is typically for people who have a very high air demand, like paint guns, air sanders, air grinders, sandblasters, and other tools that use a lot of CFM. Nobody needs 165psi, it's just the dual stage fills up the tank much faster and can keep up with high demand tools.

But for this price, you'd be crazy to not go ahead and get the dual stage if you have the power available.

for sure. I would never dream of installing a breaker without turning off the main breaker. Just to be safe I always take a multimeter and check to make sure there is no power. better to take an extra minute and be safe
I am not saying that. I am saying even if you shut the main, there is still power in your panel (where the main line connects to the main breaker) so still need to be careful there.

now I follow you. You mean the main line in that attaches to the main breaker. There is no way to shut that off. That's a good point

Just the pump alone, or the electric motor alone is worth the $250 that this thing costs. I just got done replacing a pump on another of my 60 gal uprights and spent at least $250.

In for 1, hopefully it goes through.

does not hurt to go with the recommended 40amps (beside it does seem oversized) except the pocket. copper wires is pricey. best to run a dedicated line from your panel. I am in Chicago so I am used to emt. the power in your panel can kill so be careful. there are two "legs/lines" and a neutral in there. each leg to neutral gives 110to 120. leg to leg is 220 to 240. shutting your main does not kill the power inside your panel.

If anyone needs to ask how to hook up a 220 line, they really should not even be taking the cover off their service panel.... Hire an electrician, or find someone that really knows what they are doing.. On the bright side, it would only hurt for a second!

yup. people put their guards down thinking the whole thing is deenergized. sometimes there is a disconnect before the main panel. not often. note that you will be working on it with flashlights too. yeah getting into the main panel is not for the faint of heart but I learn what I know by diy and a lot of research. other wise I would estimate the price of the job by an electrician 300 an hr. and usually around 2 to 3 hrs.

The compressor I was going to buy is the 21 Gal, 2.5 HP, 125 PSI Central Pneumatic that goes on sale frequently for the same price as this one at $160

http://www.harborfreight.com/21-g...61454.html

Is there any reason to go with this much bigger compressor for general home use (general automotive work, cutoff wheel, etc.)?

It looks like there is a local HF with this in stock so they would be the same price for me since no shipping would be involved.

The deal hunter in me says get the 60 Gal but I'm wondering if I'm better off with something smaller and lighter.
There is a HUGE difference between a dual stage and single stage compressor. I suggest you do some research.

Don't compare the two, they're different brands. The more expensive one has much better reviews. You're better off buying from Home depot or Lowes if you're going the expensive route.
If it's anything like the cheaper ones, they use the exact same compressors. The difference would be the piping diameter which allows more flow on name brand.

Guess how I found out what replacement parts to buy for shit I bought at HD? Yep, same compressors from HF, so same parts for every xyz store/name brand.

I'm guessing none of us are going to get this. How can they still be available? I'm not getting my hopes up and if it doesn't ship then I'll tell myself that someone was watching my back as it was going to end up being a bad shopping experience. In-store deal would have been sublime. Online with delivery fee and all...many things could go wrong as has been mentioned previously.
