sitting in front is gonna minimize the color shifting but the colors will still be washed out (and there will still be color shifting just not as bad). you can spot a TN from an IPS no matter how u sit just by looking at them once. Granted its a gaming monitor so obviously colors and accuracy are not its focus but just pointing that out.
i think YOU need to educate yourself here. once you go 144hz you'll never go back. even browsing the web and using the windows UI is so much smoother and so much easier on the eye. the only thing i wouldn't use this for is photo editing.
TN panel, but to be honest, if you are going to use it as a main monitor, how often will you not sit right in front of it? TN is fine. I am waiting for the predator x34P, if great monitors like this one are getting this cheap, paying $1200+ for the Acer isn't going to be that appealing anymore.

This is not a 165hz panel it is 144hz. I have this panel it is probably one of the best TN panels I've ever seen. With that said don't expect IPS level colors with this display. Games look very good but the gamma on dark scenes is kinda bad. I would recommend it for the price vs the $800 ips.

Sorry no way as good as IPS. I had this Dell and returned it the next day after playing with all the settings around the web to make it look better as out of the box it looks bad...real bad. I now have the PG348Q and although I have a little BLB in the corners I love it. Also I compared the Acer 27" IPS 144hz G-Sync side by side with the Dell and in my eyes there was no comparison in image quality the Dell went right back to Best Buy. Bottom Line is for this price the Dell is a great deal and most people will be plenty happy with it after calibration.

It is 165Hz with g-sync. I have this 24" version and it is smooth like butter.

I have this monitor right now and it's been great. My only negative is the small hard to push buttons at the bottom right and no shortcut to switch inputs. It is literally a 6 step process (I just counted).

It is a TN Panel but I have a 29" LG IPS mounted above it on the wall. I primarily game on the Dell and watch video content on the LG. Very versatile setup.
