I've tried googling "Kreg Joinery" but it just looks like it makes holes in wood that aren't perpendicular but at an angle?"

so you can easily join two pieces of wood together. YouTube Kreg Jig. I've built several pieces of decent amateur furniture with it and the jr. Highly recommend it, especially for this price.

Search for Pocket hole joinery.
It allows you to make joints that would otherwise not be possible to make with screws.

You are correct about the angle of the hole this jig is designed to help you make. The pocket holes it helps you make will you allow you to create joints without the use of dovetails, biscuits, dowels, etc. This jig differs from the smaller pocket holes jigs as it is intended to be bench mounted, while smaller jigs are mounted (or clamped) directly to the work piece.
