Was $150 With Alexa a few months back. Returned it because it didn't work. Having to wait a few minutes while it figures out you're outside and finally unlocks defeats the purpose.

key is to have wifi on all the time so the geolocation is more accurate

Mine was always on. Tried various settings on the lock too. Didn't help.

The best way to use a lock like this would be through Tasker. Sadly, no luck for iOS users.

I bought a Kevo for 60 bucks off Craigslist. It's pretty awesome, I never have to pull out my keys anymore. I'm sure this August is better but I wanted something quick, easy and cheap. I didn't need any fancy features. I can unlock the door without keys, that's all I need. I did have to play with the calibration a bit until it knew if the phone was inside or outside. Seems perfect now.

Using HomeKit makes this wonderful, it does lag for 10 second while I'm standing outside the door and press on my apple watch to unlock it.

There is a separate wifi device to connect it to z-wave hub, never bought it as I don't trust smartthings with locks. HomeKit is far more secure and reliable. Alexa now is smart enough to not enable any Smartthings skills that involves lock or alarm.

Just one thing, turn off your Apple TV's sleep setting, this needs it always on. It gave me a heck of trouble to figure this out. HomeKit is not exactly user friendly to configure, but once done it's really convenient if you're an Apple house.

I bought an August a while back. Always had issues. Returned it and have two kevo's now. So much easier and no issues. Bummer as I hoped the August would have matched up to the hype.

Kēvo now has wifi implementation too. Which was a huge set back for them in the beginning. They seem to always be improving.

I would recommend Schlage Sense over this. Sense is HomeKit enabled and comes with keypad. I got mine for ~$170 from Amazon warehouse.
Not sure about Alexa compatibility though.

Does the Kevo or schlage sense have proximity unlocking? Geolocation? I want to walk to my door and turn the handle. Not unlocked via a key/code or touch the thing. Door unlocks as I walk up to it and locks as I leave... or as my phone leaves with Bluetooth on lmao
