The ASRock combo seems worth the extra $30 if you ask me. ASRock makes the best mobo's. Ridiculous that the ram costs more than the mobo though.

The Spectre variant requires a Bios microcode patch to resolve, which is expected to impact CPU performance (minimally if your main focus is gaming). Meltdown is an A/V and Windows OS patch.

Patch is software related. I don’t know why people are crying as it won’t affect 90% of the users here and what they do on the daily.

I'm ready to upgrade and was about to jump on this before I heard the news as well. Would need to upgrade MB to buy this, so I might end up going with a 7700K instead. Will wait and see. Was going to...

Nearly jumped on this earlier in the day before the Intel news broke. I can't now in good conscience buy this until there are more concrete results on how much performance is affected by the patch....

Ha, thanks for an answer Corchado, and I'd love to say that helped but actually i want to use it for both, I'm an avid gamer and want to play 4k and VR games, but I'm also getting into video editing...

Depends, what are you going to use it for? gaming - I would go with the i5 (close to comparison to the i7) best bang for your $$. For editing or video or spreadsheet or adobe ish like that you'll...

I was looking to hold out for a i7-8700k deal, but this price seems nice. In general, would it not be too much more expensive to wait for a i7 deal, or would this i5 deal give more bang for the buck?

I would hold off on any Intel processor purchases. Windows and Linux patches for a memory security flaw inherent to recent and current CPU designs may create very significant performance penalties. ...

Same here, the Haswell line is still very capable for gaming! Just replaced my motherboard through RMA for my 4690K. I would have just bought another used z97 board if that didn't work out.

A 1080 or 1080TI isn’t going to go for less than $500 so it’s still a pretty big price gap. Plus a 1080 is overkill for 1080p gaming if you are in that market. Sorry I sent this comment via rep by...

Ti would be great to have. Only use for the Rx would be a freesync monitor if you don't buy a gsync monitor.

For gamers this is not worth it. If this card was on par with a 1080 maybe, otherwise save up and wait for a sale on 1080 and buy that if you can't get the 1080ti.
