I don't think the carbon was technically washable, but the HEPA in the original 5500 was washable. It even had a check-box for each time you washed it (up to 5 I believe).

Skip this and stick with the manufacturer replacement. I used cheaper generic ones for the last year and immediately noticed a difference in the sound and the airflow. Over time I've noticed a big...

The pleats in the honeywell filter are like 3" deep, i swear they have some sort of fourth dimension trick going on inside there. Its definitely moving air through it pretty well and it does dust up...

You might be thinking of a different product. These are definitely genuine and match the ones that came with my unit. The carbon filter is separate from the HEPA filter

The carbon filter also traps a lot of dust. I just wash them and re use it just to capture the dust, it probably wont neutralize the smell, which is ok for me.

Yes, the washable filters. It seems they might be better in certain environments, or perhaps it makes little difference. Winix doesn't sell washable replacements? I assume the filter still...

Yeah I would rather buy those when I need them and pay a few dollars more than have to keep track of extra filters for years.

It's really any filter business model. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of alternatives, even after market ones cost a 'few bucks'.

The primary difference between the popular models is a thicker washable carbon filter (lasts 1 year) vs thinner replaceable carbon filters (replace 4 times a year). The other dimensions are the same....

Ha, my old honeywell (the drum kind, right) has never had a filter replacement and seems to be going fine. Just wash the black mesh and vacuum the HEPA part every few months and it keeps going.

Where can you buy genuine OEM filters at a good price?

I get the same thing, it’s like off gassing of the plastic filter material. Funny because it’s supposed to be purifying the air, but I’m sure it’s throwing VOC’s in the air at the same time.

The honeycomb is in the higher end C555, not the C535 or 5500.
Post #125099089 added 02-05-2019 6:26 PM by vinegarstrokes in Deal Talk
I have the 5500 (bought two years ago)and it came with the honeycomb carbon filter and that is the only filter that will allow it to maintain proper airflow.

Only one filter though, which if we are in agreement that the filter is worth $30 then you are just as well off getting the c535 and two filters from costco for $100.
