It is encrypted by the housing, and they do not give you the key, the only purpose is to prevent you from recovering your own data.

The most reliable drives are Hitachi ultrastar's. You'd have to get your own enclosure. also their helium line isn't yet reliable either. western digital has had reliability issues as of late.
