Yeah, if you leave the DFW area on a Friday (especially in the summer or on a holiday weekend), you have to be out of there by 1 or 2 at the latest or you're screwed driving down to Austin. The worst traffic I've ever seen was a Friday headed to Austin and there were severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours almost the whole way down there, with high winds and at least one tornado. There were a few times when you couldn't see the service road as the rain was so heavy on I35.

No offense but it seems like every time the powers that be in Texas widen a road, by the time the project is finished, the new lanes aren't enough to accommodate the extra traffic that is now using it. It's been that way since I was a kid and they 'improved' Central Expressway through Dallas back in the 60's.
Headed to bed. Night ML.

Texas, though, still lives by the highways are growth motto, and growth is good. it's about the only place on earth that never met a highway they didn't like

anyway, I'm headed to bed, one day in the office tomorrow, then I'm out on travel for the next two weeks

I've got a hampton inn hotel booked in the keys for Thrusday evening, should be a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Miami (should be done with my conference by 3:30, supposedly). Friday morning I'll head to Key West, wander around for a while, check some things out, hang out, then I have a hotel booked in Homestead, about a 3 hour drive back from key west. (won't really care when I get there). Saturday morning I can do a tour of Marlin's park, then I could possibly hit up going into the everglades a bit, or key biscayne, or I can just head to south beach. I definitely want to be in south beach early evening so I get some good photos with the art deco buildings and neon signs.
I have to be at FLL by 1pm to return the rental car and get to my flight on Sunday... not sure if I want to try and stay in south beach Saturday night or not. parking is crazy, hotel rates are pretty high, it's not like I plan on doing any partying
I'll have to think about that, I have a little more packing to do yet tonight, too

We've been watching the Olympics coverage. The equestrian coverage was really bad, they didn't have cameras at all of the jumps so you only got to see some of the jumps, even for the high ranking (medal contending) riders. Very annoying, especially when they showed a rider being stopped on course because the rider ahead of them had fallen, yet you couldn't see what happened or even get the details as the commentators couldn't see what was going on either.
I'll have to check in the morning for a reply.
I better get to bed, have about an hour of work in the morning before i head for the airport.

I've been watching the prime time coverage in my hotel the last two nights, too, and some of the late night show.
I'm not sure which i'd call my favorites - I did set my DVR at home to record the time trial this morning so I can watch that later even though I know Wiggins and Armstrong won. Beach Volleyball has been interesting, even the synchronized diving coverage was cool.
I'm not crazy enough to try and follow Judo, or boxing, or equestrian events, or weight lifting. I haven't watched any basketball, not sure that I will. I'm less of a fan of track than most people, but I'm sure I'll watch whatever winds up on the primetime coverage.
