Sounds like you need to get to work on sorting out some of that traffic congestion.

Yeah, if you leave the DFW area on a Friday (especially in the summer or on a holiday weekend), you have to be out of there by 1 or 2 at the latest or you're screwed driving down to Austin. The worst traffic I've ever seen was a Friday headed to Austin and there were severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours almost the whole way down there, with high winds and at least one tornado. There were a few times when you couldn't see the service road as the rain was so heavy on I35.

it'll be much better in 2018 or so when they finish making I-35 six lanes all the way from San Antonio to the 35E/W split Whee until then, years and years of work zones and big time work Sheep

I'll remember not to go that way, next time I'm in Texas.

No offense but it seems like every time the powers that be in Texas widen a road, by the time the project is finished, the new lanes aren't enough to accommodate the extra traffic that is now using it. It's been that way since I was a kid and they 'improved' Central Expressway through Dallas back in the 60's.

Headed to bed. Night ML. Bye

it's not just you... the link between increased highway miles and increased congestion is real. more highway miles encourage more sprawl, more use, and more highway miles. there is now way to build your way out of congestion, because for all intents and purposes the use of the resource is 'free' and any economist can tell you that an under priced resource will be over-used.

Texas, though, still lives by the highways are growth motto, and growth is good. it's about the only place on earth that never met a highway they didn't like Hide it's completely silly for places like Dallas to build a light rail tranist line for $2+ billion, then immediately begin on upgrades to the parallel I-35E, and talk about the parallel trinity parkway, for more than $6 billion all told.. that's just a recipe for transit failure.

it's almost like a plan is coming together... maybe Dontknow

I've got a hampton inn hotel booked in the keys for Thrusday evening, should be a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Miami (should be done with my conference by 3:30, supposedly). Friday morning I'll head to Key West, wander around for a while, check some things out, hang out, then I have a hotel booked in Homestead, about a 3 hour drive back from key west. (won't really care when I get there). Saturday morning I can do a tour of Marlin's park, then I could possibly hit up going into the everglades a bit, or key biscayne, or I can just head to south beach. I definitely want to be in south beach early evening so I get some good photos with the art deco buildings and neon signs.

I have to be at FLL by 1pm to return the rental car and get to my flight on Sunday... not sure if I want to try and stay in south beach Saturday night or not. parking is crazy, hotel rates are pretty high, it's not like I plan on doing any partying Dontknow I could use some hilton points, the hilton bentley south beach is available for 50k points, then I'd only be out the crazy parking charges.

I'll have to think about that, I have a little more packing to do yet tonight, too Doh

Scratchchin Miami Beach has a bike rental station system, it wouldn't be hard to dump my rental car at the hotel and use the bikes to get around for my remaining time Scratchchin

Sounds like a busy weekend ML.

We've been watching the Olympics coverage. The equestrian coverage was really bad, they didn't have cameras at all of the jumps so you only got to see some of the jumps, even for the high ranking (medal contending) riders. Very annoying, especially when they showed a rider being stopped on course because the rider ahead of them had fallen, yet you couldn't see what happened or even get the details as the commentators couldn't see what was going on either. Annoyed

Have you had a chance to follow any of the Olympics coverage? We're watching like crazy because DH wants to watch everything, including stuff like Judo. Yawn

yeah, I've been watching what I can Whee on the flight here, I was on Jet Blue, and their 36 channels of TV included Bravo, MSNBC, NBC Sports and NBC, which all had live coverage during the day. the seat next to me was empty so I was basically watching two things at once - I watched much of the third set of the Tsonga match that went super long, I watched most of the women's soccer game, and I saw a good chunk of the women's field Hockey US game.

I've been watching the prime time coverage in my hotel the last two nights, too, and some of the late night show.

I'm not sure which i'd call my favorites - I did set my DVR at home to record the time trial this morning so I can watch that later even though I know Wiggins and Armstrong won. Beach Volleyball has been interesting, even the synchronized diving coverage was cool.

I'm not crazy enough to try and follow Judo, or boxing, or equestrian events, or weight lifting. I haven't watched any basketball, not sure that I will. I'm less of a fan of track than most people, but I'm sure I'll watch whatever winds up on the primetime coverage.
