This is a great processor. I use it primarily to game and have had great performance teamed with my 6900X. It also cranks out video and audio editing and scores a 42000 passmark even with the fact that I only have 3200mhz ram
Right now (winter) my 5900x is at 35c idle
The 5800x I installed in Feb 2021 ran at 85-89c idle.
The 5900x has 12 cores in 2 sets of 6 (cooler)
The 5800x has 8 cores as one set of 8 (hotter)
I returned the 5800x.

Its a good processor aside from heat (I like a quiet PC with few fans working).
If you want to sell the 5800x its still a popular processor.
I've seen the 5800x going for 200 at Micro Center and the 5700x for 170.
A 7700X3D is out soon but I'm skipping a generation.
The 5000s were the peak of development for AM4 and all my AM4 stuff runs like butter (vs my 2600x and x470 mobo with mystery crashes)

One thing I did learn was that the usual method (at the time) of putting a dollop of thermal paste in the center of cpu was not the best.
When I exchanged 5800 for 5900 I spread thermal paste evenly across cpu using thin plastic card.
That worked very well and temps continued to fall as cpu seasoned-in (I was using Mugen 5).
Maybe new chip drivers and bios updates brought temps down from 2020.
Lots of people (reddit etc) had been freaking-out about temps.
The new 7000s also run high temps
"AMD's Robert Hallock has clarified that temperatures up to 90C for the higher-end Zen 3 based Ryzen 7 and 9 parts are quite normal, and won't affect the life-cycle of the chip. Replying to a Redditor, Hallock said that AMD views temperatures up to 90C (for the 5800X/5900X/5950X) as typical and by design for full load conditions.....Having a higher maximum temperature supported by the silicon and firmware allows the CPU to pursue higher and longer boost performance before the algorithm pulls back for thermal reasons."
