I don't think this is a great deal when the iphone 11 can be had for as low as $60 from Metro PCS, that's with 1 month service included and you wait 6 months instead of 12 for unlocking.
Other than the 12 is 5G and the 11 is not
I was able to add the phone and $15 plan by going to phone buy page selecting color and clicking check availability. Then before choosing a plan open new tab and BYOP (https://my.boostmobile.com/shop/buy/plans/) with $15 plan and click Choose Plan. Total (before tax) in cart $214.99.

not a good deal to me

The steal Was at the beginning

A $15 monthly plan qualified instead of the $40

Combine that with boost coins and you technically have free $15 months service to cover the year

Can I change the plan to $15 per month after 1st month?

What I did was buy the 3-month plan from Amazon for $15, ordered the phone and selected port my own number (that prevents the auto activation of the $40 plan). Then I activated the phone on the prepaid 3-month plan. After 3 months it renews at $45 for another 3-months (effectively $15/m). In 12 months I am hopeful that this satisfies the unlock requirement. I used the $40 plan for one month in a portable Hotspot I had lying around.

Do you have to keep the $15 plan for a year? Is that the contract? Thanks for your indulgence.

If you want to unlock the device, you need to keep a plan on it for a year. Those of us who got in early, can get it unlocked with the $15 plan. But to answer your question, there is no contract. You can stop the monthly plan at any time, but then the phone will not unlock for use with another carrier.

Thank you so much, sir. Clearly explained. Will try to rep you. I don't know if there is a way.

Are either of having problems with your plan? Mine is showing it is out of 0GB instead out of 5GB.

My total cost for this phone with CA sales tax is $260.67 + ($41.77 x 12 months) = $761.91
I tried to downgrade my Unlimited plan in the Boost store and online, but I cannot get the $25 plan until my phone is unlocked, and you got to use the iPhone 12 with Boost network for one year to get it unlocked. I am three months in to find out I got nine more months.

Apple.com sells iPhone 12 for $599 + tax.
That is too bad. The worse part about their unlimited plan though is de heavy de-prioritization that makes the unlimited plan almost impossible to use, save for hours (mostly at night) of less network traffic. I guess it depends on the place you use Boost service as well. But at least for me during the day the heavy de-prioritization makes connection very unstable despite having good cell reception. I don't know why as I have also tried cricket unlimited using also the AT&T network and that works well. On the other hand the Boost limited data plans (like the 5gb plan) are not as heavily de-prioritizated and actually works really well. Somewhat better than TracFone and visible over the Verizon network in fact, faster than cricket. I wouldn't mind the 40 dollar plan given the deal but the heavy de-prioritization definitely makes it a no. It would actually be better if they offered in their unlimited plan stable connection even if it's capped at 5mbps or so as cricket does. Better have reliable connection than very fast speed that you cannot use most of the time

I have the 5GB plan using t-mobile as the underlying carrier and the service is heavily deprioritized. I setup mine with esim and was hoping to get the ATT-based service, but didn't. I've found that most ATT-based services perform much better and are less deprioritized than t-mobile ones. Here's how you can tell which yours is using:

On your iPhone

Dial *3001#12345#* into the Phone dialer to bring up the diagnostic menu.

Find the MCC and MNC entries:

310 240 or 310 260 will be T-Mobile.
310 410 is ATT.

Wow thank you so much for sharing this information! I did it and found out it is using T-Mobile, no wonder the data is so heavily deprioritized. I wonder if its possible to buy a physical sim with service over ATT and transfer my number over to that?

It's not likely you will find an ATT-based sim in retail stores anymore. They apparently cleared them all out a long time ago. It used to be that you could get an ATT SIM when ordering directly from Boost; I got one a while back, but another one afterwards was a T-Mobile SIM just like all the retail ones now. By activating on eSIM I was hoping it would be ATT, but mine was provisioned with T-Mobile. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can tell which network by looking at the SIM IDs (sometimes listed on the outside of the packaging) that begin with the following:

GSMA (ATT) 89014
GSMT (TMOB) 89012

From the information I could find, yes you are correct in regards to the SIM ID. Also I checked with this information and it does match the starting numbers of the T-Mobile based SIM. It's odd that they are going back to T-Mobile as last time I checked information about this they were going in the direction of changing from T Mobile to ATT and Dish for network use. Then eventually only Dish once they had enough towers

The "Spin the Wheel" hardly lands on anything other than the 5 cents for a long time now. Anyone had any luck unlocking their phones yet?

Great news! Thank you for reporting back. While I purchased in late March, I did not activate until mid-May, but it's good to know that it was all automatic.
