Phone unlocks after 365 days

Starting February 29, 2024, Metro by T-Mobile introduces the online "Bring your number" (port-in) option. People no longer needs to go to the store to get scammed for keeping their phone numbers to enjoy the deep discount. You can choose a $40 plan in most cases (even though it may say a $60 plan ($65 with autopay) is required). If you buy a phone with a new number, you need to choose the $60 plan. The free phone check-out price is $65 for the OnePlus N30, Moto Stylus 5G 2023, etc.
Metro $60 per month plan that is $65 per month ($60 with auto pay), your first month is $65 (tax included). the checkout is $65

The promotion price and availability changing daily basics , especially for the hot items such as iPhone 11, iPhone 12.

$115 ($49.99 + $65 plan) with port-in for iPhone 11
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...-iphone-11

There are three purchase options.
  1. "Bring your number" (port-in): You can choose $40 plan or $60 plan, many free phones, the checkout price is $40 or $65. iPhone needs $60 plan to get discount. For iPhone , you need chose $60 plan to be able to have discount price!
  2. New number , you can only choose $60 plan ($65 with autopay) , many free phones, the checkout price is $65
  3. Existing user can add one line for $40 plan , the total checkout price would be $40 , for free phone
Many other phone "Bring your number" option to get $200 or more discount!

You can activate the phone before or after receiving it. If you don't activate the phone, the system will automatically activate it on day 21 after it is shipped. You should receive an email from "T-Mobile US" with the subject "Your phone is now active" to give you details about your phone, phone number, etc.

If you're porting from Google Voice and having issues then the direct line to Metro's porting department is 800-518-7519

Metro by T-Mobile 180 days unlocking policy! [metrobyt-mobile.com]
180 days after activation, your phone will be eligible to unlock! you don't need keep the service for 180 days, once your phone got activated one time, after 180 days, your phone is eligible to unlock!
Unlock eligibility requirements
  • The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
  • The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
  • One hundred eighty (180) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
Metro confirmed multiple times that the deciding factor of your phones unlock date is whether it was activated before May 1st (180) or after may 1st (365), interesting to see how it plays out because people in here have the terms stating that its 180 days until unlock after may 1st.

Any other information about unlocking is fake or scam!
Do not waste your money to get third party unlocking service ! it won't work.

The MOTO Stylus 5G 2023 has *6* GB RAM, not 4gb, per the Metro website. And assuming its the same phone that shipped last time, it has eSIM support as well....

Also, Metro By T-mobile also has the T Life benefit, which means you can redeem 1 year of MLB.TV for free if your line is still active on 3/26/2024.

Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

* GV is one of the cheap ways to port-in a number. However, most likely you'll run into the same problem like the rest of us did. The GV number will be ported PARTIALLY to Metro, you phone will show the GV number and can make calls/texts; however, incoming calls/texts still go to GV. You can call Metro Port Dept (their number is in the Wiki) and ask them to complete the port, or wait up to 3-4 weeks for them to fimally complete it. I called them on all 3 of my GV number port-ins, the call was rather painless.
* Autopay is turned off by default.
What would be a good alternative to GV? I don't want to use my US Mobile number. Is there another cheap way to port in a number while not using your main phone number?

You can keep checking the order status using the order number, your name, and zip code. SOMETIMES the ACTIVATE button is "clickable" before the phone is delivered. Sometimes it won't until the phone has been delivered. In either case, you can activate the SIM without having to open the box and install the SIM. However, I've read a post from someone who used to be a Metro dealer and he said Metro might not unlock the phone if it was never connected to Metro network to make some calls/texts. Plus, if the phone is not taken out of the box, it can't receive the security code that Metro sends to it whenever you want to log into your Metro account.
That's a good point. i can never log into my metro account. is it defaulted to be autopay?

With Metro you can't just swap sims (you need to register the phone's IMEI to the line you want to use it on first) -- my guess would be you won't be able to use the same IMEI for 2 lines so you'll need to do 2x device swaps

- Activate new line using online order status page then wait until you have phone in hand

- Use online account or Metro app to switch device on new line to another phone's IMEI (in order to free up new phone IMEI from Metro)

- Use online account or Metro app to switch device on old line to your new phone's IMEI (so now old line's using the new phone)

- You can do another device swap if you want to use your old phone's IMEI for new line
Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!

Anyone has experience dealing with this?
Tried porting from spectrum and when getting to the last step, froze on the question/identity part. Tried to refresh and it went back to the original screen. Tried again and said number can't be transferred now, got an email from spectrum saying my request for transfer service for the number has been completed. Haven't received any email from metro, I doubt the order went through, I can still make calls with the number from spectrum. Any sugguestion would be appreciated.

Just keep trying. Use a different browser or an incognito mode.

This company is like dealing with a crooked carnival game. I will buy their low cost devices, then I never want to deal with them again.

I get this is carrier locked, does that mean I can use it on metro a different metro account?

I already use metro. Can I get this (by porting a different number), activate it, then put my current sim in it and use it on my current metro account, even though it's still locked...or do I need to wait 180 days before I can use it on my current account?
